Financial Aid

Ok, so basically I received my financial aid package to duke today via e-mail. Is there any hope of getting them to give more aid? Paying $32000 for even a great school like duke does not (i believe) in the long run justify going there.

Sure, it may be prestigious. As a duke student, I would be among my peers intellectually. At public institutions that give large merit aid packages to lure elite candidates, I would be considered the cream of the crop.

In terms of job placement, is the $100k (psu schreyers honors w/ mitte scholarship costs me $7k a year) worth it? I just don't know.

any advice?

I'm kind of in a similar position. Duke for me is 37k. I also got Michigan, which is 20k, and Penn State with full scholarship. Personally, I'm leaning toward UM, because I feel UM and Duke are peer institutions. At this point, I would also chose PSU over Duke. I don't think that paying the extra 30k per year is worth it. I see Schreyers as being pretty prestigious.

racket777 - You can sometimes haggle about financial aid. If you are really interested in Duke, I would give it a shot, definitely mentioning any competing scholarships/aid packages from other schools.
