i don't mean to be rude when i ask, how generous was Macalester with your financial aid package?

aid for this year was pretty pathetic, but I guess my parents are in one of the upper brackets.
I will give you a second opinion after next year's aid is handed out in June because I have a brother going to school next year. In theory, I SHOULD be getting $25000 in aid for next year.
Most people here got pretty generous packages, but there are also a lot of people who work A LOT of workstudy hours.

I received 38, 992 not including loans....all I need is another $100 to be set. They were pretty generous toward me.

thanx. I'm asking cuz my friend really wants to attend Macelester but they only gave him a third of his EFC. Is there anything he can do to receive more aid?

He can try to appeal his fin aid decision. that's all I can think of. Oh, and apply for more outside scholarships :)

most people i know who have appealed their fin aid decision have had fantabulous luck, sometimes doubling what they originally got

asking for more aid usually works. macalester is full need, so that means that (at least in theory) everyone who is admitted will receive enough aid to come. i'm sure there are cases where that doesn't happen, but i have a lot of friends who succeeded in getting more aid in order to be here.

I got nothing.

Meh.

did you try calling and negotiating with fin aid?

What would be a reasonable amount to ask for when appealing a financial aid package? I just faxed my appeal in today and am wondering if it was realistic.

I went into the office today and talked about my brother situation (he didnt get any aid from his school... way to go State!) and just asked to have that especially considered in my package. The very nice lady said she could get back to me today about my aid. My mom had said that 100%X amount of aid would be ideal and realistic. We got 130%X in scholarship and some loans plus work study so I can TA next year. Now when people say Financial Aid?? I'm going to say :-D!!
