Financial Aid

So I’m a senior in high school and I currently am working. My older brother is a junior in Cal State Fullerton and I plan to follow him. I was wondering if I would get sufficient amount of financial aid as my parents only make 25k a year since my brother also is working and gets a good amount of financial aid.

Run the net price calculator for Fullerton - that will give you the best estimate of what your cost would be.

Just remember that the most cost-efficient way to attend college is to stay close to home, so your only cost is tuition & books, and you don’t have to pay room and board. Cal Grants don’t cover room & board.

What is your brother getting fo need based aid from Fullerton? It sounds like the only difference in your FAFSA forms will be the student incime sections.

It sounds like your brother got a Cal Grant that covered his tuition and a Pell Grant that may have covered some other costs. He may have also got a student loan.

Does your brother commute from home or live on campus/apt?

The CSUs don’t have the aid that the UCs do, so CSU aid is more limited to Cal Grants and fed aid.

The UCs have Blue and Gold promise, which can include Cal Grants, UC Grants and other aid.

Your brother’s EFC was probably 0, so yours would be too…similar aid unless your brother also got a merit award of some type.

Is your parents taxable income only $25,000?

Were they also able to file a 1040A tax return form or were a dislocated worker or did anyone in household qualify for federal means tested benefits like SNAP, WIC, TANF, free/reduced school lunch in 2015 or 2014?

If yes, you might qualify for auto 0 EFC, then your family’s assets and your income won’t be counted.

Have you or your brother filed a FAFSA yet? What was the EFC on the student aid report?

If you want to qualify for Cal Grant, don’t you have to apply for that by March 2?

We both did our fasfa and i got an email saying that the EFC was 0.

Did you get your Cal grant application all done?
