Financial Aid

I was accepted into Sarah Lawrence and I can’t afford it. I filed for an appeal, does anyone what the success rate of an appeal is? Some research I did told me it is around 50%

Please define “success” in this context.

How much more do you need? There is a big difference between $1000 and $10,000.

Also are you expecting all additional grant money…or will you take Direct Loans and Work Study?

What was your original financial aid package.

What is the basis of your request for reconsideration? Did something change financially in your family…loss of income or something…between application and acceptance?

Are you hoping the school will cover your family contribution?

Did you commit to the school? Did you commit anywhere on May 1?

Hello, sorry for the late reply. I was accepted off the wait list. my family is unable to take out sufficient loan due to low income.

Could you please answer the rest of my questions?

How much more money do you need?

I hope you have other options. Sarah Lawrence doesn’t meet need.

It looks like they only meet need for 74% of students and the average award was <$30K, still leaving $35K to pay.

Don’t jump on a ship that you cannot afford, nor on one that is also leaking financially.

Sarah Lawrence’s bond ratings in 2013 were BBB from Standard and Poors (on par in 2013 with Sweet Briar College). It was rated BBB- by Fitch Ratings until Fitch withdrew its ratings of S.L. in April 2015, with a negative outlook, because “Sarah Lawrence chose to stop participating in the rating process.”

TRUST ME DEBT IS WORSE THAN A BETTER DEGREE

OP only mentions LACs in her other posts. How much can your parents contribute towards your education? Is there a financial safety somewhere in the mix?

I got around 13-14k with them, I need enough so that my parents can take out less than a 30,000 loan, 20,000 has the possibility to be considered.

You are asking for a huge amount in additional aid. I do hope you have an affordable Plan B just in case it doesn’t work out.

I do, CUNY Brooklyn. Thank you for the information.

Not to worry.

I highly doubt that Sarah Lawrence will close.
