How generous is Syracuse in terms of financial aid? Need all the info I can get please help!! Anyone care to share their financial aid package from Syracuse??

i was kinda wonderin the same thing!!

Does anyone know if Syracuse gives good Drama Scholarships?

Depends. Some people get lucky, others not so much. Originally, they offered me a $25k finaid package (the usual state & federal aid and loans, plus a small grant). I wrote back essentially laughing at them, because there was no way I could afford SU with that. A week later, they sent me a new letter, and had thrown in an extra $2500. Pitiful.

Anyway, 2 weeks later, I get a new letter. They gave me $40000 instead - anything aside from federal and state aid was a GRANT! Yay.
There are a few federally-funded programs - SSSP and HEOP, for minority, first-generation, and extremely poor students. Well, I fell into those last two categories. So I got lucky.
They automatically consider every student that fits the program criteria (as I understand it), but only about 50 are chosen each year, I believe.

Maybe this is something you would like to lobby them for, if you think you are eligible

My daughter is luckily or unluckily not a minority. She got scholarship offers from two other schools. Syracuse gave her nothing, nada, zilch! RIT was very good about scholarships and is cheaper too. We even called up Syracuse to see if they would at least match our other offers. they told us that they "know many kids get scholarship offers" and offered us nothing.

they had they pay you full tuition in order for you to even consider attending anarchy? that's some crazy ----

Well, I cant afford it otherwise :p My parents are so far in debt that they could never co-sign a loan for me, none of my relatives live near-by to do so (nor would I expect them to if they did), and so, there was no other choice.
Plus, I got rejected from all others (Trinity Coll of Conn, GWU, American, Fordham, and a few others), except some Jesuit college in Chicago, which I REALLY didnt want to, given its religious affiliation and location (and besides, they only offered me $13k of a $35k price tag)

RIT is an excellent school - one of my good friends goes there and loves it. I would definately recommend them, over SU. Plus, the campus is very nice

i pay 11k of 44k for the year (and part of that 11k is going to be in loans), but 12k is merit. Hey anarchy, what exactly did u SAY when u sent them the letter saying 25k is riddiculous? I wanted to send a letter o course but i didn't know what i could say that would convince them.

nothing special - just that it would be impossible for me to attend, given their financial aid package. I reinterated that my mother is a single parent (and my father is god-knows-where, and was therefore not included on my finaid forms - this was documented by the guidance councilor). One of my friend's friends is trying to get better finaid, I told her the same thing I just wrote - but apparently she got a similar response. They're being real tight bastards this year - even though they just jacked up tuition 5% (and they claim that part is going to subsidize finaid). Like I said. Its a real joke

I wasn't about to get a dime for merit - I screwed around in HS like you wouldn't believe - Cs, Ds and Fs in english, french and biology, As in chem, latin and social studies and technology...

i got 29+K a yr. then i got the gates millenium scholarship and one other scholarship.

What kind of Scholarships are out there? How much does Syracuse usually give, besides ouside Scholarships?

Need More Imput, Please!!!!!!!!!!!

well i herd that syracuse is really generous towards minority students. thats prolly why i got so much. they have scholarship info on their website.

so what was the total amout syracuse offered you and did you apply as a freshman or transfer?? If as a transfer do you mind me asking you your transfer gpa???? Thanks

well, im a minority, and have plenty to offer so hopefully they can help me out!!.lol

how long after you have been admitted do you receive your financial aid award letter???

Syracuse was the largest need based grant I received from a school. They filled around 80% of my need, which was good. However, I had a lot of need, and 80% still left me paying more than double the amount that the FAFSA kicked out (about 9K). I was admitted, and about a week or two later I got my award through the mail. Hope that helps a bit.

heop isnt just for extremely poor people. lol. its if you have amazing grades and show that u need financial aid. like ur parents dont make a lot of money. u dont have to be living in a box on the street to qualifiy for heop. i got into the HEOP program and im not extremely poor. sooooo yea. =). the only prob. is that HEOP fills up reeeely fast towards like early april.lol. so rite now all the spots are prb. taken.
