Financial Aid

Can you tell me whether Macalester is generous in giving out scholarship to international students. If possible, can you give me the approximate number of international students accepted with satisfactory financial aid?

It is generous, relatively speaking. 14% of the student body doesn't have U.S. citizenship; 90% of those people receive aid, and almost all of the internationals I know chose Mac because it had the best aid. However, it's very much need aware with internationals, so it's a lot harder to get in than for domestic students.
The two negative things I've heard about aid to internationals is that they generally won't give you more aid in your later years at Mac (even if you're parents suddenly don't have as much money) and they've started giving internationals some loans in their packages; however, they say that if you go back to your home country after college they don't make you pay the loans.
So, it's a lot better than almost any other college, but make sure to apply to a ton of schools. Getting in as an international is tough.

Thanks a lot for your advice. It is a pity that as an UWC students I am restricted to 10 application only.
By the way do you know the number of UWC students in Macalester?

There are tons of UWC students. Their facebook group has 34 members, and I know several more who aren't in the group (I'd estimate there are around 15 in each year). You have a boost over other internationals because you have 10,000 dollars worth of aid already paid for.
What UWC do you go to, and where are you from?

I am from Vietnam and I am now at Mahindra United World College of India. I don't know why but this year none of students from my school go to Mac.

It is odd that there aren't any kids from the India UWC, at least that I know of. Norway and Singapore each have 4-6 people go every year. I guess it's just trends among different people.
