So, my college (Kean) has been requesting my mother’s tax transcript but the thing is that she’s not employed and doesn’t has a SSN. Because of that, I had to write a letter to them explaining the situation and I wrote that she’s undocumented. I faxed the letter to kean and when I told my mom what I wrote she started freaking out. Is it bad that my school knows about my mom’s status?? Can she be arrested and deported? I’m scared. :((
No, she’s fine (at least as far as this goes). When you filled out the FAFSA, did you use her information as your primary parent? If so, she couldn’t get a FSA ID so you would have had to print out the forms, have her sign them, and send them in.
Colleges and the FAFSA process do not share that a parent is undocumented with INS, ICE or whatever.
However, you will have an issue because the school is going to insist on knowing how your mom supports you and herself. How is your rent paid? How are groceries paid? How is the electric bill paid? How are your transportation needs paid?
