Has anyone who has applied RD received their merit or need-based aid yet?
No, just receive the acceptance packet Saturday and it said Merit would be in the next few weeks and FA by end of March.
Yes, just got email and posting on the portal.
@pieferdays did you get both merit and FA? D19 just got merit.
@GrayStrong Just Merit at this time. I did apply for FA which RIT indicated is still under review.
@pieferdays Thank you! Congrats!
Got our need-based letter in the portal today.
@letsgowv how soon after admission and or merit letter did you receive it?
@futurenursemom1 Applied RD. Admission on 2/12, Merit on 2/20, Need-Based on 2/26.
@letsgowv thank you
Did they give merit near you EFC? My son got $17,000 in merit, which I know was good, but hoped a little more. I will have 2 in school. He was also a NMF & won the hs jr award.
My son is NMF as well. Once your son lists RIT as his first choice and RIT gets that info from NMSC, they will boost the merit to $22k according to the person at the RIT financial aid office that I wrote to.
Just curious if Aid package changes if you accept first. So many Aid packages are coming out in mid/late March whereas dorm commitments start in early March at some places. Makes it hard to know whether to just commit somewhere that’s known or wait til all information is in, which could be late March! Argh, not liking having some RD applications mixed in with EA
My son was accepted to Mechanical Engineering as an international student. He received Founder’s scholarship ($20000 per year for 4 years) and work study ($2800). Even after that , his cost of attendance will be more than $40000 and we can not afford that (our EFC is $23000). He appealed for additional aid and the financial aid office denied that.
For those of you from the future who will be looking for these answers next year – my son received RD notification that he was accepted into Mech Eng/Aero this past Friday March 8, 2019. Then, got word of his merit on Monday March 11, 2019 and today March 13, 2019 received word about his full FA package. Son LOVES RIT. He applied RD back in October before ever seeing the place or knowing much about it beyond it had Aero and a coop with SpaceX. I’m wondering now if he would’ve gotten more $ if he applied ED. We are trying to figure out how to make the $ work. With aid, RIT is almost identical in price to our instate flagship school. I like that RIT put in work study as a line item. Why didn’t they put in books/sundries in like other schools do? Good luck to everyone. Lots to think about and plan out!
