Question for those out there who applied for financial aid: How long did it take to receive your financial aid package after receiving your acceptance letter? Also, was your FA information posted on your portal? My son would like to attend to attend EQB awards day on April 1st. Sewanee is at the top of his list. We live pretty far away. I’m reluctant to make travel plans while unsure if Sewanee will be affordable. I spoke with the office of FA a few days ago. The person I spoke with as incredibly nice. She informed me his FA file was in que for review. We were hoping to receive his FA package this week so we could make travel plans for next weekend for EQB awards day. Any information you can provide on the timeframe in which Sewanee turns around FA packages after issuing acceptance would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks!
As a follow up: we received his FA packet. Sewanee’s FA offer, including the merit scholarship, was about $22-26 less than the other LAC offers (ranked between 35-50 on US News). Sewanee is a great school. Unfortunately, it seems unaffordable for us. Best wishes to everyone.
blarney5683, thanks for following up with this information. If you wouldn’t consider it prying on my part, would you be willing/able to share a bit more about your son’s stats and his merit awards at the other schools you mention? I’d be most grateful for any specifics you’d be willing to pass along to try to get a basis for comparing Sewanee w/ other SLACs, FA-wise. Daughter’s got Sewanee high on her list. However, the impression I’m beginning to gather from reading up on the school here on CC and elsewhere is that it may not be especially generous w/ merit aid. I know it’s tuition is a bit lower than several of what I think would be its peer institutions. However, I guess that may not count for much if it consistently offers much less FA than said peers.
Many thanks in advance.
(BTW, if you’d prefer to share this via PM, please do. I surmise that I’m still too much of a newbie to be able to initiate a PM, but I guess I can receive them.)
