I’m thinking of applying to Andover and Exeter next year, and I heard that they’re need-blind. Regardless of that, does not applying for financial aid increase my chances even a bit or should I just apply for financial aid so that the burden on my family isn’t too big?
Andover is need-blind, and Exeter is not. However, they both have enough money so that financial aid is not weighted into their admissions that much. Really just depends on whether your family can afford it- if you get in without FA, but can’t afford to go, why apply in the first place?
If a school really wants you, they will do their best to give you the financial aid that you need in order for your family to be able to send you.
Yes, there are kids receiving 90% financial aid (or more) who are not elite recruits.
If your family can afford to pay the full price (even if this would require some lifestyle changes), they will be expected to do so.
