hey guys i've been told by my counselor to apply only to private universities because they offer good financial aid, is that true?

In US,only good universities provide full/half sholarships/grants...cant say much about others...the good anes which provide scholarships to international students are-
MIT
Stanford
Yale
Caltech
Princeton
Cornell
Harvard
Upenn
Illinios
Brown
Dartmouth
Duke(not sure)....etc..

That is generally true especially with merit-based scholarship. Most schools in issacnewton's list are extremely selective in both admission and aids. IMO, you should short list schools that offer your field of intended study and then apply to the matching schools that offer the most generous financial aid policy. You should also explore scholarship opportunities in your country.

My stats:3.4 GPA(competitive catholic school brazil)
33ACT
Schools:
USC , Northwestern, Vassar college
Syracuse, Boston college, Emory ,Vanderbilt , Ithaca college.Do any of these schools offer good financial aid?

of these, i think vassar offers good aid..

I agree, getting in those is tough..but ones you are in you are assured of finance....Try searchin in google for 'hidden Ivies' and 'need blind universities' in US.....this might help...

Its like this, there is VERY less financial aid for internationals. There are only a few colleges that can give substantial aid to internationals. There are fewer that are need-blind to internationals. There is a thread which lists the need-blind colleges. If you get into those you get your aid, the tricky part is getting in. Hope this helps.

There are like a trillion threads on this in this forum. Honestly, if you scrolled down the page you would see a lot of people who talk about this already. If you can't be bothered to scroll down the page to find your information how can you be bothered to fill in a us university application?

HYMP IF YOU GET IN... IT'S need blind, well, if you have the stats to get in any of HYMP, you probably are the top 2% of the whole applicant pool, then in other top colleges with need base aid, you would probably have a good chance, if not try to aim lower... And it depends on which specific college are you talking about...

Which good science and tech schools offer fin aid to intls besides MIT,Caltech etc.

Cornell(very very limited),Stanford..

These aren't need blind towards int'l though(even Caltech isn't need blind)
