My D applied for FA for 2007-8. She's not a freshman but it was her first time applying. We had radically different circumstances reflected on 2006 tax forms and expectations for 2007. The Wes online worksheet and FAFSA EFC all indicated significant need. Today's bill showed $0 aid, just a very small loan. Any suggestions when talking to the FA office?

Financial aid has not been finalized for a lot of people, including me. Have her look in her e-portfolio under the SIMON thing to see if her award is posted yet. If not, you're prematurely freaking out. The bill isn't due until August, finaid should be available soon (mid-july at the latest, I think).

That'd be nice if this wasn't final. We were told to check in late June, about now. SIMON shows a negative financial need in the calculation box. The second box, which shows only the Stafford Loan, is introduced with "We have completed our review of your financial aid file and are pleased to offer you the following financial aid package for this award year." Doesn't that sound final?

Yeah, that's it. You can ask them to re-evaluate, though, if there's something that they might have missed. You should ask on the parents listserv for advice. I've heard that they can be really helpful. If you're not on it already, here's the site:
