<p>Could those who attend NU please state how much financial aid they originally received. About how much money do students who fit the non-need based category usually receive and is there a difference if you apply ED/RD?</p>
<p>Well, all of NU aid is need-based. There technically is some merit aid, but that's only for special prizes in the school of music and some for debaters. Avg. student receiving aid gets $23,000 of NU scholarship (this does not include federal grants/loans and work study). There is no difference with regards to aid b/w ED/RD expect that with RD you'll be able to compare packages with that of other schools. Otherwise, NU is very accommodating with its financial aid, avg. loan debt of graduating students is something like $15,000 (roughly) which one of the lowest of the big 10 and really good considering how much it costs to attend.</p>
<p>You forgot that NU is a National Merit sponsor school, so that's merit aid. I'm getting $2k/year.</p>

<p>Apply for fafsa and css as soon after Jan 1st as you can possibly do the paperwork-with the notation that you will be completing your tax returns-it is not dependent on your completing your tax returns-you can then finish your tax returns-and revise your fafsa/css with actual $$ information</p>
<p>yea, do those ASAP, I had to do FAFSA corrections a few times because I had to do the whole thing myself..
In the end, i was offered a great FA package..it ended up being about the same price as my state school!!</p>
