i just got a letter from the financial aid office today saying that i don't qualify for financial aid. but they will consider me for loans. i applied before the dec. 1 priority deadline that says you will be considered for merit scholarships. does anyone know if i still have a chance of some merit?

Probably not, merit scholarships were awarded a few weeks, a month ago.

yeah, i got the same letter too. kinda sucks, but i guess i was expecting it.

i got my aid report from FAFSA saying that my EFC was $25,000, so i definitely dont qualify for anything from the UW, but i havent gotten a letter back from the UW OSFA yet, so maybe i might get loans, i dont know...Im hoping so.

Did you get in?

Did you guys confirm enrollment at the UW already? or do they send you that even if you haven't confirmed enrollment. What's your EFC or range if you don't wanna say, or like low, mid, high :P ($15,000 is UW tuition about) Also, did they send you an e-mail asking for copies of your parents income tax forms? I got an e-mail asking for that, and my EFC was about half of tuition at UW.

Ok, I'll try to answer all of your questions so here we go:

1) Nope, I haven't sent my confirmation of enrollment
2) So yes, they sent me my financial aid report w/o having been enrolled
3) My family's EFC is 22000 (I have no idea where that number came from!)
4) Nope, they didn't send me an email asking for copies of my parent's income tax forms (W-2's and 1040's, I assume?)

But... I think that they sent you this email because they are working on a financial aid package for you and they just want to verify that your EFC really is the amount that FAFSA says it is. I guess they just want proof or something.

Well, I hope that helps!

Is it true that financial aid only pays for like 8 quarters total?

What do you mean? 8 quarters would be like 2 years right? I've always thought that you reapplied every year for need based financial aid. Maybe your thinking of merit-based aid because I know that most of UW's m.b.aid is for only like 2 years.

I heard from someone that their cousin (long time ago) got only financial aid for two years...I know you apply every year but I think they stop giving you $$$ at some point even if you qualify

lol, seriously? dang, well that sucks. maybe something happened so that the person you're talking about didn't qualify for aid anymore... or maybe uw is just stingy... i dunno.

sorry, i just reread your post and realized that you wrote that he still did qualify for aid. if that's the case then i have no idea.

Does anyone know if u still get scholarships u ve gotten on top of fin. aid @ UW? I heard it depends on the schools because some deduct the fin. aid $$$ when u get a scholarship.

Hmm.. good question. I'm not sure what the policy is w/ UW so you might want to call their financial aid office and ask.

I just got my financial aid award from UW and I got about 5000 in scholarships! :) I'm pretty happy right now, it's listed as "university scholarship"

That's awesome Dopke!

So you're gnna get 5000 AND fin aid?

MM... financial aid package means loans, grants including need and pell grants and federal grants, and then scholarships. So the package included that scholarship of 5000 and then about 2500 in a loan. Add those two to our family's EFC and you get just about the cost of UW a year at 15-16k. Basically, its UW cost subtract EFC = your aid in loans/scholarships/grants

So just to make sure I'm getting it right...if your EFC covered all of UW's costs (15k) then a scholarship wouldnt do you any good?

No; it would do a lot of good. You can use the scholarship and give some of the rest to me!
