Financial Aid?

I was accepted EA to both BC and Notre Dame, and in the end I think it might come down to financial aid, since I love both schools so much. So for current students (or anybody who's knowledgeable about the subject), how generous is ND with financial aid? And would you perhaps be able to compare it to BC, if you know anything about that? Thanks.

I'm not a current student, but if you go to search this thread then type financial aid, there are a few good past threads about it.

I got in early to both school also, and BC decided not to send me a financial aid statement even though I kept calling and asking why I hadn't gotten one yet. They were also rude to me on the phone so I went to ND haha.

My son applied to both ND and BC. He applied to BC EA because their litterature says that the aid is better for EA students. BC basically offered him nothing but loans and a little work study even though he was admitted to their Honors Program. We told him, regretfully that he'd have to cross it off his list because it was patently beyond our means. He applied to ND regular action and got in. We thought that was nice but expected the same financial treatment we'd received from BC. To our surprise and great excitement ND paid more attention to our FAFSA than our CSS form and offered him enough money so that we could send him. It's not a ride in the park but It's not supposed to be. He's very happy at ND and ND has earned our gratitude for looking realistically at our financial situation.

That's the opposite of what I wanted to hear, but at least I'll get financial aid from one school, haha.

From what I've heard ND is terrible on aid compared to BC...but then I also believe that preferrential aid is given to grads of Jesuit schools at BC.

Most of the people I know are upper-middle class as well, which would affect how each school gives its money. ND is strongly committed to helping low-income kids afford the school, which leaves wealthier applicants out in the cold.

S was accepted both to ND and BC. BC was rather difficult to work with on the additional and voluminous info they wanted. By then, he was into ND and the aid was do-able. ND was his first choice, so we did not pursue the f/a at BC.
