is anyone else horrified at the amount of financial aid neu gives? they did not even come close to meeting need. they only met about 20%. no idea what to do now.

I get nothing

Well...they definitely didn't give enough aid, but I can't say I'm surprised. You really have to demonstrate an extreme need in order to receive a large amount of finaid.

neu is not known for need based aid. They also base those awards on academics as well as need. I assume you did not receive a merit scholarship as well or something?

I did receive merit aid, but that amount only covered 1/3 of the total cost to attend Northeastern. As far as need-based financial aid, I received a few measly loans and work-study, but it comes nowhere close to what I need. I'm holding out the slim hope that i can receive a larger merit award, which is, granted, very unlikely. But I am still optimistic that I will find some place that will give me a decent fin. aid package. Good luck to the rest of you in finding funds for college, may it be NEU or another school!

On the offside, any current students have words on how their aid package was? (good, bad, doable, taking out 40 grand in loans, etc)

Just to make sure, you did file the CSS profile, right? They won't give any institutional funds unless it's filed.

Question - I filed my FAFSA but what is this CSS profile? Is it necessary to complete in order to receive financial aid even though I have filed the FAFSA?

Northeastern requires financial aid applicants to submit a FAFSA and a CSS Profile. You can Google both to see the forms. FAFSA only considers income, and in cases of divorce only income from the custodial parent. CSS Profile considers assets AND income from BOTH parents AND any step-parents, so the expected family contribution (EFC) is usually higher with CSS Profile than with FAFSA. According to Northeastern:

"The deadline for all forms of financial aid is February 15.
The two required forms are available online:

* FAFSA Free Application for Federal Student Aid (NU code 002199)
* CSS/Financial Aid PROFILE (NU code 3667) "

when we were theere on 2/23 they told the accepted students that there was still time. Hopefully that still applies. To be sure , call the financial aid office. CSS Profile is thru College Board.

I filed the CSS profile in April and still received funds. File it, you have nothing to lose.

Ugh but it costs money :(

Okay, thanks.

only about $ 40, and if that is an issue, I believe you can get a reprieve .Again if that is an issue, you most likely will qualify for some aid, Do no procrastinate any longer..get it done before it is too lae and all funds are doled out to other students...do it tonite:(
