How much does indiana university give its students? I am an out of state student and there is absolutely no way my parents or I can afford 25k tuition + board. Does fafsa give any money to oos students if it is a public school?

^^ i had exactly the same questions

it's all in the forms of loan..eww, unless u get some need based scholarships...IU hardly offers any. u gotta check ur fafsa. The EFC. If ur efc is >34000..ur getting nothing need based

How much IU will award you in scholarships is dependent on your academic record and test scores. This is from the website

Automatic Academic Scholarships: Types of Scholarships: Office of Scholarships: IU Bloomington

and includes the automatic academic scholarships available to OOS students:

IU Distinction
$8,000 per year

IU Distinction is a scholarship awarded to the best and brightest out-of-state students for their distinctive and outstanding academic achievements in high school. Out-of-state students who have a SAT score of 1300 or above or ACT score of 29 or above, and a minimum GPA of 3.75, will receive an IU Distinction Scholarship at the time of admission (valued at $32,000 over
four years).

IU Prestige
$5,000 per year

IU Prestige is a scholarship awarded to in-state and out-of-state students who have attained a prestigious level of academic achievement in high school. Students who have a SAT score of 1250 or above or ACT score of 28 or above, and a minimum GPA of 3.70, will receive an IU Prestige Scholarship at the time of admission (valued at $20,000 over four years).

IU Recognition
$2,000 per year

IU Recognition is a scholarship that recognizes in-state and out-of-state students for their academic achievements in high school. Students who have a SAT score of 1150 or above or ACT score of 25 or above, and a minimum GPA of 3.60, will receive an IU Recognition Scholarship at the time of admission (valued at $8,000 over four years).

National Merit Scholarship
$1,000 per year

IU awards this scholarship to all National Merit Finalists who indicate IU as their first choice through the National Merit Scholar Program (valued at $4,000 over four years).

FAFSA does not give out money. FAFSA is simply a form that your family completes. Each school you submit it to uses the EFC (expected family contribution) calculation to determine how much financial aid they can offer you. If your EFC is too high compared to the COA (cost of attendance), you will not receive any grant money. How much IU will offer your family (grants, loans, or work-study) depends on your EFC.

Public or private, in-state or oos, doesn't matter. What matters is the difference between the EFC and the COA.

hey my efc is in the 200's how much aid can i expect ? Or does it depend on federal funds ?

My efc is just under 18k. Should I except a decent financial aid package from IU with an efc like mine?

studsingh23, our efc was similar to yours. Besides the scholarships mentioned above, you are not likely to get anything other than loans--at least judging by my son's package.

you were right. I received a letter from IU and my financial aid package consisted of 5k worth of loans and a work and study program worth 1.5k.

"you were right. I received a letter from IU and my financial aid package consisted of 5k worth of loans and a work and study program worth 1.5k."

I got the same thing, my EFC is 6000

Don't expect anything other than work study and loans. It's a public school and doesn't have the funds to give out. Basically, the price you see is the price you pay (and it will be $24770 in tuition for OOS students next year) unless you can get a merit-scholarship, or are a URM.
