Anyone have a clue what type of $ NYU may award; with a EFC of around $20,000 and pretty high academics?

If it's financial aid, your academics have nothing to do with it. Financial aid is not the same as merit based scholarships.

I answered this thread in the FA forum. here it is again

you don't apply separately for scholarships.

my son is a freshman at NYU in CAS. My EFC was ~12k this school year. His sat was 2250

He got 2400 perkins and 3500 Subsidized stafford loans
900 Work study

and a 15K trustee scholarship and a 15K Carroll and Milton Petrie Scholarship. They swore to me that he will keep both scholarships for all 4 years. My son would not be at NYU w/o that scholarship.

the rest of the money came from me, my EFC plus a little extra for books, etc.

No grants, We are not NY residents so no NY grants and we didn't get a Pell grant (obviously).

Thanks
I couldn't find any info on NYU's website about scholarships specifics - how many they give out and in what amount. Do you know what academic scores, GPA's usually qualify for these scholarships?
Just wondering if we have a shot at any merit $?

this is what my son got NYU Today

You won't find many details on the NYU websit.
the scholarships my son got weren't specifically mentioned (until I googled it).

Different schools within NYU give different scholarships.
Some are for specific schools.

You CAN"T apply directly for them. So when you get the FA award, you will be either surprised or horrified!

here's how we found out we were 'getting something'. In late March last year, we got a letter from a FA officer. It said, "we have good news and bad news. The good news is you are being accepted to NYU (this was a day or two after my son got one of those cards in the mail). The other good news is that you may need financial assistance to attend NYU and we will be able to assist you. The bad news is that in reviewing your file, we realized that we have not received a completed FAFSA from you".

It went on to say to file the fafsa and get in touch with them asap.

Well I had filed the fafsa and when I got in touch with the FA office, it turns out that a digit in my son's SS# had be put into NYU's system wrong. I tried desperately to get the FA person to tell me what type of $$ my son was going to be offered, but she would NOT budge on the phone. We had to wait for 2? more weeks to get the paperwork in the mail.

I realized that getting 30K from NYU may be an anomoly, but their FA gets a bad rap and I can speak from experience that they do have $$ to give.

there is no formula posted online for who gets what. You only have a few more weeks to wait ....

Thanks
We will just hold outr breath and wait for the letter and hope it's generous.
You have been helpful. Thanks again

Wait...so you're automatically considered for scholarships? NYU doesn't require any extra information?

If you're not applying for need-based aid, NYU automatically considers every student for merit aid. That being said, they have been known in the past to offer a meager 4k to people with close to perfect SAT's (I and II).

no special forms, you can't apply for a specific scholarship
