For the folks accepted to Dartmouth, how much financial aid money did you receive for the school? I think I faired pretty well when it came to paying for the school, but I was wondering whether the rest of the matriculating folks faired well too.

I also have a question about financial aid at Dartmouth. Is an "endowed" scholarship something truly special? Or are pretty much all of the scholarships endowed, in one way or another. Sorry for being dense about this. We're new.

In answer to your question, Gazette, Dartmouth was my son's best offer.

Wolrab:
All scholarships are "endowed" insofar as they come from the college's endowment. Named Endowed Scholarships are monies that have been earmarked for some specific criteria, although they can still only be given for need, and are in no way a merit scholarship. The endowed scholarships can be larger than a normal scholarship because they often replace loans and work study with additional scholarship. However, I think that Dartmoputh is doing away with most loans anyway.

Yes, no more loans as of next year. ... Thanks for the explanation. Pretty much as I thought.

I just wanted to go on record as to how amazing Dartmouth's finaid is. For most of the schools I applied to I didn't qualify for any need-based aid, but after appealing what Dartmouth offered I received a SIGNIFICANT amount more.

Dartmouth rocks.

For me, their initial offer was 10k less than Northwestern's, but when I appealed, they matched it almost immediately.

2k, unfortunately. D:
