Financial aid?

what is the financial aid like for dartmouth?

good? bad?

average debt?

its really really really really great

I was moer than satisfied with my financial aid. My family is fairly well off, but with my older brother in college, it would be a strain paying for both of us, and thankfully the financial aid package ended up being much more than I expected. However, I know that a friend of mine asked for a review of her package when she saw the offer she got from Columbia, and her financial aid actually got lowered.

I was very happy with my Dartmouth finaid packages throughout my four years there. Before my freshman year, when they initially came in a few thousand higher than some other schools, we showed them the packages and Dartmouth matched them. The finaid people also provided about $1000 for my unpaid internship in DC.

But best of all, they maintained the level of aid throughout. A lot of schools are notorious for reducing aid substantially during junior and senior years--figuring you won't transfer out. Dartmouth, however, kept on increasing my aid; my best package was senior year--I was left with an EFC of under $6000--below my FAFSA level. Thanks to their generosity and some good budgeting, I made it through D without having to borrow a cent. Some other people might have negative stories, but I have nothing bad to say about Dartmouth's financial aid office.
