I know Boston College is not known to give out any satisfying financial aid but would like to hear first hand from students.

For those who were accepted last year, could you post how much aid you recieved maybe stating your EFC and income level if you don’t mind. Please also post if you got in EA and contribute some ideas as whether if you are able to go or not sure yet.

A few weeks ago there was a transfer student on this board waiting for an aid decision. Can you share that with us? And any other 09 transfers.

I got in EA this year. Just saw my award on Agora yesterday. BC offered me zero dollars in grants, and only a few thousand in a loan. We're not rich, we're just average. It would cost my parents well over half of their take-home pay for me to go. And there are 2 other kids at home who have to eat. My parents said no way am I going to BC. So, it looks like UMass for me...

Not sure how the middle class can survive for very much longer in this screwed up country with its screwed up higher education costs.

what was your FASFA EFC?

My Dad says BC fell short of the EFC by several thousand+. It may be something to do with 'institutional' method vs 'federal' method, BC appears to use the institutional?, which is less generous. Also, my guidance counselor told me yesterday that BC is a notorious school for what they called "gapping", meaning they rarely meet EFC and expect you to find funds via parent loans and stuff like that. Like my friend said last night when I was talking to her - where's our bail-out?
But the bottom line is I won't be going there. Whatever my folks had managed to save aside for college (not much) is worth only about half what it was worth 2 years ago. I feel like I just wasted 4 yrs, I should have bailed on studying and, instead, partied in the woods with the other kids. I'd be at the same spot I'm at now. I have 1st semester finals next week and I'm not so sure I have it in me.
Sigh... what a crappy time to be entering the world.

BC has it's own way of measuring EFC, which takes into account the amount of money your parents have in the bank, your equity, your net worth, etc. They use these numbers as well as the form needed from the collegeboard website to create your EFC. Yes, BC does not give good financial aid, but it's still a great school
