Does anybody know about how much finacial aid an upper middle class, instate student would recieve from fafsa and profile?

depends. I am from a family of 9 children and my parents wanted me to go to Notre Dame over UM but i opted for UM bc tuition was cheaper for me bc i am in state as well. I am paying maybe 2K and my dad makes 6 figs. it tends to depend on a lot of stuff: assets, houses, income, if your parents own a business - which mine do, 3 of them - it'll vary. also if you are in state you can get some scholarships from the state - i think mine are around 3k but idk.

define upper middle class... 100k?

Yeah, I think almost exactly 100k.

My EFC is 13,000, but my dad lost his job in december. However, EFC is calculated with the previous year's income. Is there some way that I could factor this in so i can get a better financial aid package? I'm guessing that my EFC would be cut in half

Sam... talk to UM Fin Aid - they are very aware of the financial situation of their students and right now are doing a lot to help them out - either through helping find loans, scholarships, grants, etc. talk to them and explain the situation and see what they can do.

Similar situation as Sam, family income was about 200K last year but my dad quit his job so it's about half this year..

How do I calculate EFC on my own? Any idea how much I'd get from FAFSA and profile?

I'm pretty sure there are "test" FAFSA calculators out there, maybe even on the FAFSA site, that will give you a preliminary EFC.

well you reapply for financial aid every year so for those people whose parents lost their jobs, at least your sophomore year tuition would be lower. and i believe the cutoff for any significant financial aid is 70 grand? I could be wrong though...
