Financial Aid

Anyone seen their finaid package yet?

I read on one of the blogs that they were to go out shortly after April 1.

I’m anxiously waiting…

Haven’t heard yet.
will we get e-mails or have to check OSCAR to find out -OR- do we wait for an actual letter?-Anyone know??

Likely a letter then shortly afterward, accessible through OSCAR.

nothing here yet, anyone seen fin aid?

No not yet…waiting patiently…

Not yet-Still waiting…:(

Mail’s here!
Received award letter with a Financial Aid Award Guide ( pamphlet ) today!!
Atlanta area mailing address.
Didn’t receive e-mail: not on OSCAR or Buzzport yet.

so…what did u get?

I received mine today in Ohio.

Got 13k in grants but no loans on the award letter. Shorted 20k.

State u here I come. :-(

I have an ATL address too and didn’t get anything today…:frowning: hopefully tom!

oos also, offered scholarships, grants, and loans.

Great!

May I ask for more detail, i.e., types of grants and loans. And what were you stats and EFC?

I got mine today. I’m in Miami, FL. I got 10k in scholarships and the rest loans. So I’ll be in debt over 80k after 4 years. It says all numbers are estimates, as they are still processing documents from the verification process, but I doubt anything will change by much.

OOS status puts you under about 20k a year -so being OOS is a real disadvantage right from the start.
Residents have HOPE, if nothing else. That covers tuition, a stipend for books and also a fee
allowance.
With FAFSA there are soooo many variables.
Ever thought of contacting Fin Aid to see if they can offer anything else?-I’ve heard some do

Hmm.

13.5k grants.

Not bad, not enough. T.T

I’ve emailed as to why no loans were offered. I thought everyone was offered some type of loan, at least, they have been in all the FA packages I’ve received so far.

EFC 17k

8k scholarship a year
The rest in loans (= ~29k)

. . . yeah. I guess I’m going to UT. Which will still cost a substantial 18k a year, but at least it’s doable.

Florida here. Pleasantly surprised to have over 21K in GT and Godbold Foundation Scholarships. Then there’s $2500 in work study and 5k in loans. That leaves the EFC of over 13k. It’ll still cost a whole lot more than the deal DD got from Pitt (Full tuition plus $4000/yr). However, it’s now comparable to UF’s Bright Futures (with their tuition differential and honors housing). I’m going to call Financial Aid anyway because our family financial picture is drastically different than the 2008 tax returns. Husband is basically out of work now (self-employed contractor) and I’ve also just filed for divorce. Yup, the finances are REAL different. Maybe they can adjust that EFC.

No award letter yet & cannot get through on the phone! I just get the recorded message or hung up on if I press 0 for an attendant.
I wonder what the “runs like butter” ranking is?
Did everyone else get an award letter?

Sons package came in and basically we pay full out of state. Scholarships are awarded on merit and need. We don’t qualify for need so thus no scholarship even though our son has an outstanding academic record. With GT having Hope, cooperative school exchange with other states, along with their being rank so high nationally, they focus on providing funds for students who are absolutely amazing academically with the Presidential scholarship or those who show promise but also have financial need. This is all understandable and I applaud those who will receive assistance for their hard work through the years.

Frustration for us - we have save for 18 years, sacrificed financially for our son to attend college and one might say in some ways because we have been good stewards with what we have - we won’t receive funds except through loans. Loans still require payment which really doesn’t help a lot:(. Still GT is a good value compared to many schools. I just wish there were more financial scholarship or funding plans for families like our own who have a young person who is ready for college. The financial crisis has made this even more of a challenge so we will have to do some serious thinking about how to proceed.

Still, since we are believers, I am sure that if GT is where our son should attend, a way will be made. We though will certainly be called to be creative too in how to address this responsibly.
