I just received my financial aid package and only got loans. I'm OOS and can't attend if I have to pay full tuition. Is there any way to get more money? For example, would it be a good idea to ask them to match the amount another college is offering?

if your parents make under 35k combined then it’s free

hey ELTACOGRANDE where could I get more information on that? do you mean the whole tution is covered?

Carolina Covenant Brah

I only received loans, too, so I’m hoping the REAL aid comes later. Hahaha

Any1 have an estimate on how long it’ll take b4 they review your FA? They just posted that they had received all of my materials the other day… (i had to send in extra “verification” tax forms)

Well, all my stuff has been in since like Jan 5th and i haven’t gotten my award info yet. So, who knows what order they review anything

My financial aid was actually what I was hoping. EFC was the same as FAFSA’s and only 1500 in loans.

They couldn’t find the stuff we mailed in for verification…They found it yesterday, and in the email they sent (in reference to my email of “where is it?”), they said final award letters will be sent in May. MAY? Hopefully they’re not doing this for everyone! This could make a difference if someone was waiting on the financial aid $ to make a decision…

I just got mine yesterday…I got a full ride from grants and W-S, yay for covenant…

micina

You can ask but I would only do so if it was a school they considered a peer school not someplace like ECU or some small lower tier school. If you have the offer in writing for a peer school you would need to fax it to them for verification purposes. It never hurts to ask.

BTW: no offense intended for ECU just using it as the first example I could think of.

ECU? more like EZU

Many families who might receive grants and other forms of aid at other schools might only receive loans from UNC for the simple reason that UNC costs so little – thus, your family has to have a lower income to qualify for need-based grants at UNC. This is particularly true for in-state students, since in-state tuition is so low.

Overall, I really think UNC-Chapel Hill has very strong need-based aid programs. If you feel that your aid package doesn’t reflect your individual financial circumstances, though, certainly talk to someone in the Office of Scholarships & Student Aid.

Yay! I got my financial award online! I got the work-study, so I was looking around at the jobs available - but most of the jobs have hours already listed on Mon-Fri, like 8 to 5pm? That surely means the times you can work but not for the full shift, right?

What I’m wondering is, will I have to select my classes based on my work schedule? What if I want to take classes that would conflict with those times? Just wondering if anyone has had any problems. If there are any Carolina students who could tell me about their on-campus job experiences, I would appreciate that.

Another random question. My final award, NOT including work-study, is $15,700. If you do not include books, personal costs, and so on in the total cost of going to UNC, does that mean I might have a little extra money to buy such things? Or is that not quite enough? (I ask because I realize the work-study money will be directly deposited in my account after I have worked, and therefore I will be unable to use it for dorm necessities, books, and etc.)

Thanks, anyone!

Maziana, the full cost of attendance for in-state (including tuition, fees, room and board, books/supplies, travel, and personal expenses) is estimated to be $17,424.

See this page: [The Office of Scholarships & Student Aid at UNC-Chapel Hill](http://studentaid.unc.edu/studentaid/cost/ssa_ug_general.html)

as you can see from the chart above ^^ if u take out personal and travel, then u’ll have enough to cover your books… then once you start the job, you’ll be getting enough money coming in to cover the travel and personal…

if your still worried, then just get a job this summer and you will probably be able to keep a 1000$ in your bank account to fall back on…
