Financial Aid

When do we / anyone received their financial aid package yet?

ltr mailed mon May 26 from finaid to us for fri may 1 decision. How unreal is that? Got it e mailed Mon and was rejected for aid on basis of 158,000 in house hold income but have 12 years of college in next 8 years for three kids. Yale and harvard say up to 200,000 in income parents pay 10% of that towards tuition. Is it worth an appeal to fin aid?

But is anyone actually in college yet out of those twelve years? And basically no college is going to match a Harvard/Yale need-based FA package since those are basically the only schools that can afford to do that.

to be fair to FinAid. When did you get all your paperwork done? Did you meet their well published deadlines or did you turn things in late?

As for the 12 years of college for three kids. Once those kids are actually in college, then your finaid situation will greatly improve. But you can’t count money that you will spend in the future to get finaid now.

We did the math and couldn’t come up with a reasonable way to meet the payment Cornell originally set for us. We appealed and showed them our figures. They gave us a bit of financial aid, but it was the difference between doable (thought difficult) and impossible. So I recommend doing the math and if it comes up short, then appeal. Day care for one of our younger children was a factor that wasn’t originally factored in. Best of luck.
