Financial aid!!!

To anyone that gets their package....post!! He He
I'm anxiously awaiting mine.

I doubt anyone will post all the details of the FA. lol.

I’m in Dallas too, the wait is killing me almost as much as waiting for my decision from the rest of my Ivies (already had a likely from Cornell), but if my FA is good from Cornell I’m enrolling, no matter what. lol.

well, idk if he means post the amount, just let us know that you recieved it.

Got accepted by Cornell… haven’t got my package yet but I’m getting $0. They sent me an e-mail telling me how limited financial aid for international students is and that I can be placed on a waitlist for aid. I wish they had just flat out rejected me… Why bother accepting me when my financial aid form clearly showed that I need aid?

COA $36292
Parent Contribution $16000
Student Contribution $2300
Fin aid
Grant $13000
Unsubsidized Loan $3000
Work study $1800

Federal EFC: $21500

I just sent in half of my CSS today (Missing Noncustodial)… =(, I don’t know when I’ll be receiving my financial Aid package.

yeah, i got ED and didn’t apply for financial aid at the time, but then due to recent economic problems we thought it would be safer to apply. Just got the letter today that basically said we did not qualify. My parents are starting to rethink if Cornell is the right place…

is this because cornell is your #1?

let’s not forget that the actual cost of transportation and such coming to and from dallas

Transportation is a moot point for me, considering my top 3 choices are Cornell, McGill, and UMich (in that order), and yes, Cornell is definitely my number one choice. Easily.

My parents are willing to pay about 20k a year for school, maybe 25k, and I’ll be responsible for the rest, which I’m totally fine with. I think I’ll be a little more encouraged to do better than I would if my parents paid for every little bit of it. And from Boston University, my EFC was ~24k, and so I figure at Cornell that’ll leave me with 3000 in loans, maybe a little work study, and my student contribution, which I’m certainly willing to take on.

^ i’m curious resurgam, is there any reason you ask?

I got my FA package today.

IT’S ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC!!!

I got 32k in grants, which absolutely floored me. Twice as much as BU gave me. Absolutely fantastic.

Cornell really came through and I’m definitely enrolling. They just made this the happiest day of my life.

Heh, if you don’t mind saying, how much is your total family’s income? :P

Edit: Or at least what range? :S

Umm I don’t know exactly but it somewhere between 100k and 130k.

My parent contribution was like 16k which was amazing, IMO. Nearly half of the the FAFSA calculated EFC.

I <3 Cornell FA

hate to be picky but i wonder if you got a decent finaid package because of your URM status even though your income is rather high…

Thanks!

I hope I can get a similar package. Though I just sent in the “Freshman financial aid form” today :/

I thought you only needed to do FASFA and CSS Profile :(

Resurgam:

It very well may be true. I don’t know. But what I’m thinking is that if they can give me that with that income level, then maybe it’ll encourage some people on here to bargain a little bit if theirs isn’t quite as good, because at least you know they’re able to provide that level of assistance. Not for everyone, but hey if a few people can get there FA package fattened up then I’m happy for them. I thought I was going to have to call and haggle, but I’m not going to because I’m so happy with it.

guess what just happened when I got my mail today?
cornell offered me a 34,000 grant. although ithaca is nowhere near as awesome as san fransisco(berkeley), that would be hard to turn down!

go cornell financial aid!

Wow!! lol…Zfanatic did you send all your stuff on time??
I sent in everything late…but hopefully I’ll get a good package like you…lol

Ugh…just got an e-mail saying that we were missing my mother’s W-2 form. Do you think that I will still get a FA package in the next couple days since we sent in everything else?

~chronic you can always send them an email.

I sent financial aid an email on the 31st right after I got my decision. I asked them when I could expect to see my award letter.

i got an auto response that said to expect an answer within 4 days due to high volume but I got an answer back first thing the next morning saying my letter would be going in the mail that day. Hopefully i will get it tomorrow.

mine was pretty amazing as well!!! COA: 52k. they gave 23k grant, 3k loan, 2k work study. Quite a relief after northwestern gave nothing but loans and work study! (efc is 17k) guess the financial aid office made my college decision for me. Does anyone know if cornell gives national merit scholarships?
