Financial Aid!

So my family is working class, and i am very qualified to being accepted to BU (I graduate high school in 2011). I was wondering how generous BU is of giving people a lot of need-based aid? Does this depend not only on income but also SAT scores, GPA, etc?

Need based aid is determined when you fill out the federal forms and then BU, like any school, runs it through their system to see what you qualify for. The other kind of aid is merit aid. BU offers a number of scholarships based on grades and scores. You can look them up on the BU site.

typically you’ll get a cross section of aid based on merit and need. if you have a high need and are very qualified, you’ll get the most $ possible to meet that need. if your need is high but you’re not as high up on BU’s list, it’ll be a bit lower

i will let you know that BU is totally not generous when it comes to aid, especially when compared to some other schools. I was an extremely over qualified low income applicant and they r giving me 29,000 a year but their cost totals to more than 53,000 that leaves me more than 20,000 in debt every year!!! and when i aske dthem about this they told me that they have given me the maximum amount that they give to anyone at the top of the applicant pool and even if i filed for an appeal i would get nothing more! So its not cost effective in anyway! but im still going there lol i like it and i dont mind the loans! but most students dont want all of these loans and i understand

The first and second year are usually tough even if you do get a lot of aid, but keep in mind you can do things like move off campus or become an RA to save money on room and board.

ugh great. I guess i better start saving up…thanks for the input guys :/
