How many of you on here received 30K+ in financial aid from NYU? And if so, what was you household income at the time, if you don't mind posting? thanks.

Why don’t you post your particulars first?

Wow, I wish I would’ve received 30K!!! I only got $14,000 and $2,500 with a PTK scholarship so I am not attending- way too expensive!! I definitely would’ve gone if I got 30K!!!

because I don’t see why it matters because I haven’t even applied anywhere yet. But if you must know it’s appox. $40,000 from a single parent who pays for me to go to private school. I was just wondering what amount other people got because I didn’t know if anyone actually gets that much from NYU.

My EFC is approximately 12,00 how much financial aid and I supposed to receive from NYU? Does anyone know? How much they would give. I am hoping for 20,000 from NYU for financial aid and a little more if they can give me work-study.

Can anyone else reply to how much financial aid they were given from NYU in the past years so that we can compare our circumstances!?

I got a little over 20k (Subsidized Stafford Loan, SCPS Scholarship, Pell Grant, TAP, and Work Study).

My parents are unemployed and literally make zip. They owned a business that closed shop back in the summer, so we’re living off savings.

Did you appeal for more aid? Your situation certainly merits doing so.

Financial aid at NYU has very little to do with your EFC. The difference between cost of attendance and your EFC is just the max they’ll give people, and usually they give far less.
So if COA is 50k, and your EFC is 20k, they’ll give you anywhere from 0 to 30k in scholarships/grants, and closer to the 0 mark than the 30k mark. Where you end up between 0 and 30k is then given more like merit aid, if that makes sense. Some people with higher EFCs end up with higher NYU scholarships than others because they have an outstanding high school record, have taken the most rigorous course load, terrific extracurriculars, a fabulous audition, etc etc.

Reading about people’s failed attempts to squeeze more aid, I never thought that would be an option. But how would I go about doing so?
