Can someone rank these schools in financial aid for OOS.
UC Berkeley
UMich
UVA

UVA ( at least for need base)

what about berkeley compared to michigan?

Uva

Uc b

Um

I am not sure about Cal j89. UVa is slightly better than Michigan for sure, although neither is known as a model of generosity.

I was just looking at collegeboard’s financial aid
UCB:
[College Search - University of California: Berkeley - Cost & Financial Aid](<a href=“College Search - BigFuture | College Board”>College Search - BigFuture | College Board)
UM:
[College Search - University of Michigan - U of M - Cost & Financial Aid](<a href=“College Search - BigFuture | College Board”>College Search - BigFuture | College Board)
Considering that UCB has 91% instate students and an average FA package of 18k, while UM has 72% instate and an average FA package of 9k, I kindof assumed that UCB would give more towards the OOS students. Just for reference, UCB cost 8k for instate, 30k for OOS; Michigan cost 11-12k instate, 35k for OOs.

^oh yeah, and UVA is 100% need met with an average of 17k. Thats why I ranked it first.

Um fa>uc fa.

But j89, only 26% of UVa students get aid, as opposed to 46% of Michigan students. UVa may provide 100% of need, but they accept students that are wealthier.

Bump. I am interested in this as well. How good is Michigan for out of state financial aid? I want to finish my last two years at Michigan to earn a degree in computer science. But I also want to do grad school, so I don’t want to go too deep into debt before I finish under grad. I am in Virginia and I may attend UVA because its cheaper. But Michigan is my dream school and IMO better than UVA. With that said, how is Michigan for out of state upperclassmen? I am a URM if that helps lol.

University of Michigan is likely not great for out of state financial aid, though I have heard a few stories where they were very generous… this may have been due to merit aid. Perhaps look for scholarship funds outside.

OOS for U of M- Forget about it

In-state- count on it :)

Man, I so wish I lived about 150 miles NW of where I am now…

Dang, that stinks. Thanks anyways then. I guess I will have to look for some outside scholarships and grants for Michigan then. Does anyone know the average debt an OOS student graduates with? A rough estimate would be fine.
