how is the financial aid at vassar? i think i have a pretty good shot at getting accepted but the only problem is the price tag on it. i have a sister in college already, am a middle class hispanic. competing against other applicants, i'm not sure i can beat them out for merit aid but i will need to get a whole lot of financial aid.

thanx

I have a friend who is going to Vassar in the fall. She needed a lot of aid, and Vassar gave her a good aid package. I also know that on the Vassar's site it says they're need-blind and that they try to meet full need. Hope that helps.

Vassar doesn't offer merit aid. However, don't let that deter you. Vassar meets 100% of financial need. I got more from them than I or my parents ever thought. It ended up being the same cost as the college that did offer me merit aid.

i dont think my stats would be good enough to compete with other applicants for merit aid at vassar but the financial aid package seems good. right now, the toughest thing for me is worrying about whether i'm getting into vassar. hopefully everything works out.

thanx

are you sure they're need blind? when I visited, the admissions counselor said they were "90% need blind", meaning that they weren't completely, and that if you were on the edge, needing financial aid could push you to waitlist or rejection or something. maybe she or i is mistaken?

Yes, you are right mcghee. Vassar is no longer need blind but rather "need sensitive". This was a big issue during the year and it came up during our town meeting along with some other issues. It is possible that if you're on the edge your need for financial aid could affect your chance of getting in. But at the same time I still believe this is not as big a deal as it may sound. Vassar is still largely willing to offer all the financial aid that is needed for admitted students.

Ok, one more time...
Vassar DOES NOT OFFER MERIT AID!!!
There, sorry, just tired of saying it. It's not that hard of a concept to understand.

I was accepted as part of the class of 2009 and I have to say that Vassar's financial aid package was great. Don't let the money issue deter you from applying.
