if you're an nyu student now, could you tell me how much they gave you in financial aid? just wondering. thanks!

most would say nothing

i don’t think that’s true.

^^wow reject the truth? nyu is known for its horrible aid, how do you not know that?

Princeton Review ranks us as either number one or two in regards to having the worst financial aid in the country.

my son received 32K in scholarship money from NYU this year. that’s up from his freshman and sophomore years when it was 30K and 31K.

My EFC is about 12K and his SAT scores were 790 math, 740 reading and 720 writing.

Is this typical, no. But it does happen. FWIW, he’s been on the Dean’s list with a GPA of over 3.7 his first two years of school. He’s a white male

I’m from Kentucky…I had about 3.8 GPA when I was accepted, a 33 on my ACT, and am a National Merit Finalist. My EFC was about 3000 a year…I get about 22000 a year from the school- then some extra help from ACG Grant and Pell Grant. If you decide to come, request an appeal of your financial aid package. I got an extra 2000 by doing so. Then again I had some financially draining circumstances come up with my father the summer before I started. But hey its worth a try.

collegebound, i get that nyu is bad with financial aid but i don’t think most kids would say they get absolutely nothing.
thanks, bmtich!

The latest “NYU News for Parents” states that approximately 4% of the 2009 entering class received merit-based scholarships (range $1,000 - $25,000).

We get nothing (nothing but loans).

I received that mailing and can’t believe how they can boast about that. They also go on to say that they are unable to meet the full need of most students. Was this mailing supposed to make parents encourage their kids to apply because if anything it had the opposite effect on me.

isn’t that just merit based scholarships, though?
out of 2,975 students who applied for financial aid last year, 2,361 were offered aid. that’s decent, right?

Its a crap shoot. Some fare better than others but here is some food for thought.

[Is NYU Squeezing Everyone But Its Neediest Students? | NYU Local](http://nyulocal.com/on-campus/2009/10/21/is-nyu-squeezing-everyone-but-its-neediest/)

It seems as if they use financial aid to promote diversity as they even hosted a recent Diversity Open house. When I applied almost 30 years ago, my father was deceased and our only income was Social Security. I was in the top 2% of my class and they offered me $200 per year in aid. I think at the time their tuition was about $4500 per year. Needless to say I did not attend.

But I have to give them credit, with all the negative publicity about the lack of aid, there is no shortage of students applying there and they do maintain a stellar reputation.
