WOW! Congratulations!

Oh wow…I will go check again. I submitted most of my forms late though, so that may be the problem XD

Yay found it!

Grants/Work-Study
Federal Work-Study $2500

Loans
Federal Subsidized Stafford Loan $3500
Additional Federal Unsubsidized Stafford Loan $2000

Hmm…$2500 WS and $5500 in loans. Does anyone know about the stability of USC’s FA? (I have heard some stories about it…)

Your loan and w/s awards are consistant with a freshman package http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-southern-california/839970-faq-usc-financial-aid-2010-a.html?highlight=faq+usc+financial+aid+2010 . The loan totals will go up $2,000 soph year and again $2,000 Jr year and upper classmen will have a somewhat larger w/s award as they are expected to be able to manage their time better than freshmen. There is a corresponding reduction in the need-based grant as those totals go up. This is all painstakingly explained inthe first two pages of the FAQ thread linked above. :)

Another factor that may impact your award in future years in whether you have a sibling in college at the same time. See the FAQ. My fingers are tired.

Another important factor: you will submit a new FAFSA and CSS/Profile every year of enrollment. Any increase in income or assets will, of course, result in a different financial aid calculation.

greymatters: check with your parents on the CSS/PROFILE and what they put down as assets and home equity. Most likely USC took that into consideration and calculated your EFC to be 30k. Alamemom is correct–double-check your numbers for FAFSA.

i got absolutely no grants…my efc was like 15k… ouch

**Thank you for visiting the USC Financial Aid Office. Your financial aid information is currently unavailable because your award has not yet been determined. **

Grrr. The wait for financial aid will be more agonizing than the wait for the decision ever was.

With FAFSA EFC 2600, USC awards family contribution of 10,500 + student loan 5,500 + work study 2,700 = 18,700 outstanding.

This is the worst package received among 9 schools(5 state and 4 private) admitted, Guess can’t go.

“If there is a will, there is a way”

Will: check.
Way: check-- 55k in Aid, with 5k in loans. The best thing is being able to tell your parents that they only need to pay 500 a year. :D

cookie4college, I peeked at your past posts - congratulations on your wonderful acceptances! And it must be such a relief that those wonderful options came at affordable prices. CONGRATS!

Congratualtions, livesmart!!!

thanks! alamemom

OK I have been stalking around these boards for months trying to gleam info for my kids and understand all the processes. Thanks to everyone for all the great info. Now that we are to the $$ part (my part) I need some help. My D financial aid info did come up today but it does not show her Cal Grant award. This is fairly substantial ($9708) and was wondering if anyone could shed some light at the process. Thanks again.

First check WebGrants <a href=“CSAC - Student Landing Home”>CSAC - Student Landing Home; to be sure she was awarded a CalGrant (you may have already done this, but in case others have not). Then be sure you have USC listed as her school of attendance. If all of that is correct, the Cal Grant will almost certainly appear. (After a week or two. or three. Or…) If not, send an email alerting USC that she qualifies.

A note: If they were not aware she qualified for Cal Grant, they may have awarded need-based aid in excess of what she will qualify for once the Cal Grant is applied - in which case you may see the USC grant (if any) reduced in the amount of the Cal Grant. It will still add up to the same, but will be coming from different sources. (Hopefully that makes sense!)

Thanks alamemom! I did check the mygrantinfo site and both are a yes (award & USC). I went ahead and have sent email to financial aid office and I do understand your info on reducing of university grants. I will follow up once I receive their reply.

Alamemom - Thank you so much for the information! I am pleasantly surprised to be able to consider USC now : D

can someone post the link to review Finaid stuff. I go to usconnect and login and then click on Financial Aid. It just shows five boxes (i.e., document status, applying for FA, scholarships etc). Is that what I should be seeing until FA makes their decision? thanks

nwfilmstudent, there will eventually be a box for “financial aid awards,” but you can also click on 2010-2011 Awards in Oasis Financial Aid here:
