Is everyone getting their finaid package online? because mine still hasn’t showed up yet…and it’s been over a week (the time they told me to wait). I sent all my stuff in Feb.

We received ours the same day as the BIG envelope. It appeared online in Where Am I In The Process a few days later.

41,510.00 Carnegie Mellon Undergraduate Grant
1,209.00 Federal Work-Study
3,500.00 Suggested Subsidized Federal Direct Stafford Loan
2,000.00 Suggested Unsubsidized Federal Direct Stafford Ln

Sounds good to me :)

Wow, that’s awesome! Did you have 0 financial need per fafsa and a large EFC? Based on our income we had a large EFC which made us ineligible for any need based aid. My son is heartbroken…this is his number one choice. He has a $15k and 17k scholarship from other schools based solely on merit…we are very bummed…

Yeah i really lucked out. I applied ED to SCS. I have a bro in grad school right now, and a twin brother going into school next year as well.

As we are new to this whole process, when we received our Financial Aid info (online) we saw a Undergraduate Grant listed. Is this renewable each year?

hmm how do we appeal to them about our aid package?

is there a form to fill out?

Yes, $0 financial per FAFSA and large EFC middle-income family. I think that’s why son qualifies the Carnegie Scholarship [Admission > Grants and Scholarships](<a href=“Home - Computing Services - Office of the CIO - Carnegie Mellon University”>Home - Computing Services - Office of the CIO - Carnegie Mellon University)

I hope it will work out for your son through Review request.

has anyone else not received their financial aid package yet?

i have not…and they said it was because i didn’t turn in my signed parents’ tax returns til march 30th when in fact they UPDATED it on march 30th.

I haven’t got mine yet. I called the admissions office last week and they said it was in the mail. I called four days after that and they said they were still reviewing it. I wouldn’t worry about it though because a lot of people are still waiting.

I got a really bad deal from them because my EFC is high because we were frugal and saved for college even though our income is low.
Nevertheless, I got much better aid offers from other places.

Will they consider any of the following as peer institutions, also which form are we speaking of.

USC
Boston U
Tulane

Thanks for any help

vocldad: DD also rec’d a grant. Acc to a CMU fin aid counselor, this was indeed renewable each year depending your financial situation. She also said that the % grant remains the same, so the amt changed in proportion to the total cost.

what did everyone with an EFC of 0 or close to 0 get in aid?

I received 33k in a combination of grants and loans and work-study (only 14k from CMU grants)

That leaves about 20k for me to pay…even though my EFC is 0

I love how I’ve been calling once a week for the past two months and they decide to tell me now that they need documentation to prove that I am a citizen… Why would they continually tell me that it’s in the mail when its clearly not???

does anybody know what the full cost of attending is? they sent me an email but all the numbers aren’t aligned so I’m kinda confused

So I am quite annoyed that a similar problem has just risen in my case as one of the previous posters; Carnegie suddenly decided they do not have documentation that I am a citizen. Of course this would be no big deal if they told me NOT midway through April. I also am still waiting for financial aid, but honestly the delay from the administration has really turned me off from the school in general.

They requested the same after DS got a school grant on showing a competitive scholarship. We fax’d a copy of his passport with a note that we accepted the grant and would matriculate.

^^ That may very likely be the case with me as well, since I still haven’t received any FA info. Did you guys find out by calling? It’s really ridiculous if I’ll never get anything in the mail unless I phone them specifically to find out.

Thinking about this,
If CMU did not admit you and you submitted a sensitive document unnecessarily, you’d kinda irritated.

If CMU admitted you and you did not receive money other than loans, then you won’t need a proof.

If CMU admitted you with financial scholarship, and you declined, then you won’t need to submit proof.

I take it that you are receiving a scholarship and you will matriculate.
