I've been reading that JHU is not fully need blind and that some decisions are made based on need. Hopkins says this applys to about 5% of the applications. Who does this apply to however? Very borderline applicants?
Thanks

I asked about this before. Apparently need blind in this case means meeting full need. Therefore some applicants are admitted with no aid when they do infact need aid. No applicant according to Ellen Frishberg who I talked to is ever denied due to his financial status however.

Ah, thanks. That lightens some worries.

just to add...the hopkins admissions process is need blind when it comes to the adcoms make decisions by not factoring in a student's financial need. the only time decisions may be swayed by financial need is in the rare cases when students might be removed from the wait list.

the reason jhu can not state they are completely need blind is as "blah2009" described. Need blind refers to meeting full need, and in about 5% of cases a student will be admitted who has need but will not be offered a full aid package. The only students who fall into this category are ones who did not apply on time for financial aid. So remember to apply by Feb. 1st!

Once again though, no applicant will ever be denied due to financial need.
