Hello,
I am a single mother and my son is in 8th grade. Where i live don’t have good school and i want my son have good education. I applied for financial aide and got scholarship to get into Private school and he is doing great with straight A. So my question is, will my son continuing and graduate high school from private colleges will effect him getting grants, aide and scholarship to go good college? Some one told me that those who go to private high school won’t get aide, scholarship because college think they don’t need it since parents are rich. Like i said earlier that i am single mom and working as care giver and not rich.If sending my son to private school will effect him from getting grants, aide and scholarship to go colleges then i need to talk with him and move to public high school. Please need help to understand me better.Thank you.
When the time comes…you will apply for financial aid for college. The info on your financial aid forms will determine whether you get aid or not…as well as the aid policies of the colleges.
Your kid’s high school won’t have any impact at all on financial aid for college.
you will fill out a document called FAFSA for your instate public universities and another one for private colleges that “meet need” called the CSS. Neither system assumes anything from the fact a child is attending a private school.
Thinking well ahead: do look into LEDA and Questbridge in case your child would qualify. Look at what they’re looking for. (NO need to mention this to your child till he’s in 10th/11th grade).
Do not discount preparing for the PSAT the summer before junior year (test in October) since if he’s within range the preparation can yield a lot of financial benefits.
For now and in 9th grade, it’s most important he’s taking classes in all 5 core classes (English, Math, Science, Social Science, Foreign language) and trying various clubs and activities to see what he likes best - no need to decide till 10th or 11th grade so plenty of time to try out anything that appeals to him from anime to varsity sports to orchestra to photography to theater tech to robotics to MUN …
