Anyone else receive a Fed Ex overnight with Johnson’s info just now?! So excited!
@JFFP97 we had some questions about our award and I just called. They looked up his account and answered all of my questions. If you are able to call, I would do that. They were super nice and helpful!
I got the Dean’s Scholarship too, and today I got a letter that I’m a Johnson’s Semi-finalist… I live about 20 minutes from Santa Clara
DD got Dean’s with admission and just got letter that she is a Johnson’s semifinalist as well.
@CAMidwestMom Thanks !
3.5 UW and 33 ACT.
No “scholarship” and no need-based aid but got some incentive scholarship for around 42,000 a year. Not really sure how I got it but it says it’s renewable for 12 quarters and makes my annual cost of SCU including tuition, room and board, ect… around 24,000 a year
Congratulations to everyone on their awards and Johnson’s notifications!
what are the stats of people who are received Johnson’s notifications?
Does anyone know how many Johnson’s semi-finalists there are? I know that there will be 50 finalists after the next elimination and then 10 actual scholars.
Admit and Merit Award Summary 2015 (Class of 2020)
*Portal updated and letters received with admission status was 12/15/15 (snail mail for some probably arrived later)
*Merit information on portal on 12/17/15.
*Johnson Scholarship (10 given) Semi-finalist Nominees - While a couple reported getting nominated with original merit award, the majority received a separate notification on 12/23/15.
*Those receiving nomination for Johnson Scholarship had already received some other merit scholarship like Dean’s, Provost, etc, on the 17th.
Happy Holidays everyone - good luck with Decision 2016!
I’d like to know more about negotiating merit aid. My DD received an incentive grant of $4,600 from SCU but a Chancellor’s Scholarship to Chapman of $22,000. Any guidance appreciated.
@lfrancis95 I suggest posting a more general question about this in the Financial Aid forum. I think you might get more experience and advice there. All I know is that one, the FA office here seems to have pretty friendly, helpful staff, so you might start with calling them and just laying it out that SCU is a top choice but that the finances are an issue. Good luck!
would love to know that as well!
@2sk8like: Johnson scholar stats 34 ACT, 4.1 GPA, lots of leadership and ECs, varsity sports, 10 APs, attended 3 diff high schools in 3 diff countries. SCU was not at the top of her list (got into 3 top 10 engineering schools) but for full tuition covered she is going.
Stats can be misleading. My best friend’s daughter had 4.6w, 34 ACT, 2300something SAT, 12 APs, Speech and Debate leadership, state finalist and got 6K Deans from SCU for engineering (and as I mentioned is a girl!). She is at Columbia. Go figure. Depends on what they need to balance the class that year which can be a variety of things.
We actually tried to negotiated on past child at SCU (based on getting a lot more from other schools). We were firmly told no negotiating. But honestly, what does it hurt to try. They can’t take what they’ve already given you away and all they can do is say no. Their reputation is very much that SCU is a stingy school. Their scholarships are tiny in comparison to their peer schools…except for the few that get things like Johnsons.
When will they release prompts for Jonhnson scholarship? It is due by the 25th of this month.
hi guys! a little late here but i just got selected for the johnson scholarship class of 2020! stats: 36 ACT, 800 math 2, 4.72 weighted gpa 3.83 unweighted, 5 ap calc bc, lang, chinese, apush. challenging senior course load. extracurriculars: very involved, poms, speech, badminton, student council, research etc. honestly so grateful and excited to become bronco!
I bet SCU is grateful to have you too! Super stats @musicpen - congrats on being awesome!
@CADREAMIN thank you!!
