Anyone know when we should hear about the bottom line offer from Mizzou? Daughter heard from Iowa and still waiting on two others besides Mizzou, but we are eager to get the news that will help us decide!

Ditto! All of this waiting around is killing me …and my son of course Trying to be patient…but it’s difficult!

Glad we’re not alone! I was hoping someone who has been through the process before might let us know when they heard last year. Iowa was very prompt and very disappointing :(

My merit scholarships are posted but still waiting on financial aid to be posted

Financial aid packages are posted on students account

Our package is not complete yet - only shows loans. I hope that isn’t it!

Thanks, bigbooklover! We will take a look this evening… holding my breath.

concernedmom…I also received a letter in the mail telling me about the merit scholarship I was awarded. I think you should call

Thank you bigbooklover. I don’t think we initially qualified for scholarships based on ACT scores even though GPA is now a 4.0. But we were hoping they would reconsider before the final offer. Did you get a good package? We are still waiting… Would really love to go if it works out financially.

Yes, I got a very good merit aid package. It cant hurt to ask. When I was visiting Mizzou I asked for some more money and they found me an additional scholarship.

We are planning to visit Mizzou in April. I guess we should visit even if they don’t come through in the initial offer. Maybe we can ask them to reconsider while we are there. I just hate to have my kid love it there and then find out we can’t afford it. I know we can always try for in-state tuition after the first year, but it would be nice to know it could work out without having to do that. It is such a risk to count on money that way.

I waited to visit until I received my merit package. Did not want to pay to fly from California and not be able to afford to go there

Well, everyone should have their financial award letters by now … or should have them by Monday… We are out.

amy, we got ours this weekend. no aid of any kind (other than loans - how generous of them). very disappointing as I had always heard Mizzou was a good value. Not.

We may still visit since there is an option to get in-state tuition after the first year, but it is a gamble and not sure a school that offers nothing is worth that. Pretty unhappy with Mizzou right now. We will see…

Bummer, concernedmom27… I think Mizzou is a good value for in-state and there are many different scholarships available for in-state students (as I’m sure you’ve seen). For others who might be interested: If you are out of state and have high stats, you get the $10K Mark Twain, which then disappears if you gain residency for sophomore year and beyond. So you save around $15K when you become a resident, but lose the $10K OOS scholarship, so you might “gain” $5K … but with a COA for 2014-15 of $38K for OOS…wow. Great/popular school, but not worth going WAY into debt for! Wish I had an additional $80K to hand my kid so he could attend Mizzou, but unfortunately I do not. (And note that Mizzou’s COA includes just 14 credit hours per semester; most other COA’s that I have seen cover 15 or 16.) University of Alabama (flagship at Tuscaloosa) is probably going to be the “winner” at our house due to the amazing scholarships they offer!

Sorry it did not work out for you guys. Really confused how the entire financial aid packages work. Mizzou was very generous to me but I did not receive one penny, not even, loans from other schools.

Thank you bigbooklover. Best of luck to you!

I know it’s a little late, but I just found this thread. You guys aren’t alone. I’m an in-stater and Mizzou offered me almost nothing other than loans. (They did offer me an insultingly small merit scholarship.) When they sent me my “aid” package, I wanted to tear it up and send it back to them. Even as an in-state student, I can more cheaply go to a very well-respected private school with more accessible professors and more opportunities for internships during the school year. That combined with the fact that I never really liked MU that much in the first place, it’s very safe to say I won’t be attending. It’s kind of a shame, though. I wanted to go into journalism and, while I was admitted directly into their J school and know that they are very highly-regarded in that area, I cannot justify spending that much on an institution I don’t even care for.

ThatOtherGuy – Best wishes to you! Hope your other choice works out very well for you!
