Financial Disaster

I have run into a bit of financial trouble. I have approximately two weeks to come up with around $25,000, or I will not be able to return to campus next year. Are there any student/private loan companies that will be able to loan that kind of money and have it be able to pay for this year?

Check with your local banks to see what they offer and contact your college’s financial aid department to see what they advise.

Is there any way your parents can co sign for you or be able to take out a PLUS loan? I would call the school, expain the circumstance, maybe they can certify the PLUS loan, etc. I don’t know if this help.

even if you come up with a way to borrow 25K which I’m assuming is for THIS school year, what do you do about paying for NEXT year??

that is WAY too much to borrow for 1 year of school for most people

I would NEVER cosign a 25K loan for my child. If I wanted to borrow money, I’d take the loan out in my name and hope the kid pays me, but cosigning is VERY RISKY to cosigner.

This is my friend’s post… any other suggestions??

Find a less expensive school to attend.

I don’t quite understand - this is for the current year? Not next year? How did you get so close to the end of the year and only now are trying to find $25k to pay for it? It is unlikely you will find a private lender to lend a student this sort of money without a cosigner. And what are you going to do for next year?

If this is for the current year and you are going to be in the same boat every year then I agree with the other posters that you need to find a more affordable school. Problem is if you do not pay what you owe them they will probably not release your transcript to any school you try and transfer to.

They will probably take your credits away also.
