Financial Engineering

I just recently came across financial engineering while searching for careers I might want to go into. I still only a high school senior so that's a long way off but I was wondering if anyone could give me a brief overview of what a financial engineer actually does. Also, if I wanted to take that path later on, what majors in college would be best?

It’s not really engineering. It’s more about advanced mathematical applications for finance. Google “quants” if you want more information.

If you want to get into it, study Mathematics and Computer Science, while taking substantial coursework in Economics, Finance and Statistics.

You will need to obtain at least a Masters in Math, CS or Computation Finance (aka Mathematical Finance, aka Financial Engineering) to gain entry into the field.

Thanks for the help
