What exactly is financial engineering and does it differ from operations research?

Compared to a major such as OR or Business, what kind of prospects does it offer?

What kind of jobs would a person with an engineering undergrad masters in financial engineering get?

Thanks

"What kind of jobs would a person with an engineering undergrad masters in financial engineering get?"

No offense, but all you need to do is do a goodle search for "Financial Engineering."

Financial Engineering usually refers to three types of areas:

Computational Finance(otherwise known as mathematical finance),which involves derrivatives, investment banking, risk management etc. Schools like Carnegie Mellon, Princeton and some others have this major.

Reinsurance: Many insurance companies transfer part or all of their risk to other companies. I don't know which schools teach this.

Financial Planning: Some people interchange the term "Financial Planning" with "Financial Engineering." Technically, Financial Planning isn't really Financial Engineering, although It has been used interchangably by some.Good schools for this are Bentley College (graduate program), Texas Tech ( graduate program), Towson University ( part of accounting major) UCSD ( graduate program) and some others.
