Financial for international student to Aerospace Eng @ Stanford

Hello everyone,

I have a son who dreams about studying Aerospace Engineering at Stanford. He has very high marks and SAT scores. He knows that doesn't guarantee admission, especially because he will be an international applicant trying for financial aid. But it’s a good start.

Anyway, we have a question about financial aid for international students, and the Aero/Astro MS degree. After going trough the website, we understand that although very competitive, he will have the opportunity to apply for a fellowship to finish the MS (5th year). Can anyone confirm that?

If that’s not the case, we don’t believe that majoring in Aero/Astro makes a lot of sense. Of course, the minor would be a good alternative.

Thank you,

I’m not very familiar with the aero/astro program, but I do know that a lot of students do a co-term, which is a 5th year masters. Seems pretty easy to do. I don’t think you need to apply for a fellowship. Just make sure you pick your classes appropriately.

I don’t know about the fellowship either but I do know that as an international student, once Stanford wants you enough, they’ll meet your financial need. If they can’t they just won’t bother accepting you.

Thank you for the quick reply. Do you know if any of those co-terminal students is an international receiving aid?

I don’t know any coterminal students at Stanford period, far more for internationals (I’m starting this year). lol. But I’m an international and receiving aid (they don’t lie when they say they’ll meet your financial need once you’re accepted). They will most likely fund for all 5 years. You can always call or e-mail the financial aid office to be sure.

Yep, my son will do that tomorrow. Thank you for the answers
