Hi! I am from India and have been accepted into UC San Diego(Revelle College) for CS as major but I am experiencing some financial issues. I would be really grateful if anyone could provide a solution to this problem.
International students have very few options for financial aid, especially at state schools. California schools do not give need based aid to international of out of state students. Internationals are not eligible for federal aid, and some private scholarships are also restricted to citizens.
Where else were you admitted that is affordable?
@twoinanddone is absolutely correct that the public universities in California do not provide aid to non-residents.
The State of California cannot afford to fund non-residents. These public universities are funded by the State’s residents who pay taxes to fund these schools.
Non-residents are regarded as “cash cows” because these students pay the full fees and dollars that the State of California desperately needs. Were you unaware of the fees? Assume $67k per year and a school in a very expensive neighborhood and city.

As per their advice, you need to find funding sources from your country.
I was also admitted in Calpoly SLO but I was leaning towards UCSD because of its fame.
What is your affordable budget? Fame/Prestige will not do you any good if you cannot afford to attend. SLO has an excellent CS program and well received by employers although since you are International, I assume name recognition is more important for Indian employers??

Calpoly is affordable as it has fees around $50k per year.
Yes, in India, people know more about UCs than State University
So you are looking at another $15K/year to attend UCSD? As stated in the above posts, you will need to find funding from your home country since you are not eligible for Federal and CA State funding.
SLO and UCSD are your. only 2 options?

You have 3 options:

Accept Cal Poly SLO’s offer, get your CS degree and go home and educate the employer’s about the value of the SLO program

Figure out how to get more $$$ to attend UCSD

Take a Gap year and reapply to schools the fit into your budget and consider some Private universities which will offer merit aid to bring the costs down to an affordable range.

After taking into consideration all the factors, I think I am going to accept Calpoly’s offer only.
