Financial Help Needed for International Student

Hello.

I am a South Korean currently living in the United States and am a rising senior (class 2017) in high school.
Now looking into college, I am in need of scholarships. My family annual income is in the high $30,000 and low $40,000 with 3 dependents. I would really like to go out of state for college, but that requires me to change my visa from an E2 dependent visa underneath my father’s name to a F1 (student) visa in the upcoming year. Having to do this, I will be applying to colleges as an International Student.
I have been looking into possible scholarships, but they mainly require a US citizenship or permanent resident, which I am neither of. If anyone knows of scholarships that International Students are eligible to apply to PLEASE let me know. I would really appreciate it.
Thank you so much!

I’m in the exact same situation :frowning:

Regardless of your visa status, in most cases you will be applying as an OOS international student.

If you have instate status in your state of residence…what is the problem attending college there?

There are very few colleges that guarantee to meet full need for all international students. Even your instate public university won’t do that.

Will you qualify for merit aid? What is your SAT or,ACT score…and your GPA?

ETA?..you asked this same question a year ago. What have you done in the meantime to research college options?

Well, what about Questbridge? I suggested that to you last year. Have you started the application and essays? What about a teacher recommendation?

Questbridge is for US citizens/PR.

The number of colleges that meet full need for international students is VERY few. And the students who reeive them walk-on-water. Because of your well-represented nationality, you will be competing with an immense number of your countrymen for those handful of awards.

Questbridge is also for non-citizens who graduate from a U.S. high school - which is what the OP is.

Can I apply to the National College Match if I am not a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident?

The QuestBridge National College Match is open to all:

-U.S. Citizens and Permanent Residents

-Students, regardless of citizenship, currently attending a high school in the United States

@Madison85 Yes, I have started it. Thank you so much. I apologize for the late reply. I haven’t been on here for a long time. But I am almost ready to submit my application for QuestBridge.

What are your stats? There are very few schools that will “meet need” for an int’l. There are some schools that give merit scholarships, but probably not enough for you.

Should we assume that your family won’t be contributing anything?

What state do you live in?

Going “away” to school is a luxury. Going OOS is a luxury. Prepare yourself that you may not be able to just go wherever you want.

questbridge is not for international applicants - only US citizens

See post #5, this thread:

I think the the application deadline has passed (I remember it being sometime last week)

^^^
Then it’s a good thing that OP was “almost ready” to submit the application on September 10th. Hopefully it was submitted before the deadline.
