financial problems

would a college admission office research the parents before deciding whether to accept a student? I am worried that a pending foreclosure suit or a judgment against the parent might hurt the child's chances to be admitted to a college or university

Ha yeah right…like they have resources to do that. They don’t even run background checks on students…why would they do that on parents?

The foreclosure won’t hurt when it comes to admission. What’s to worry about, though, is whether the parents will be able to afford college. I hope the student has at least one financial safety that they know they’ll be admitted to and can afford.

Yes, I agree. You may have to file a special circumstances form with all the colleges financial aid departments because your parents income has changed drastically. Be sure to choose your colleges carefully.

The foreclosure would not have any impact on admissions, but it would have an impact on their ability to potentially help with paying for or financing a college education or to co-sign a loan that you take out.
