Financial prospects.

hi there,
my name's arslan and i am an international. i was considering to apply at macalester and was wondering wether i could have a few od my questions answers.

*first, i cannot pay more than about 3000-5000 dollars a year. do u think macalester eill offer about 100% need-based aid if i do get in. i know it's not need-blind but does fullfill our need?

*secondly, what are the factors that are most important for admission? are should i be foucusing on anything on the application if i were to apply.

*is there any harm in applying via the common application?

i'll appreciate any sort of help here. thanx.

A letter that I received in reply to my questions about financial aid:

*Regarding your questions about financial assistance for International
Students, Macalester does offer financial aid to international students.
Students applying as first years or transfers are eligible to receive
financial assistance. We ask that you complete the Macalester
International Financial Aid Form that is enclosed in our application
booklet or you may complete the CSS form, International Student Financial
Aid Application (ISFAA). We ask that you submit either form to us along
with your application for admission.

We base the amount of financial assistance we grant on the information you
give us on the form. The award would come in the form of a Kofi Anan
International Scholarship and a job on campus and would be based on
estimated costs for all expenses for the school year. This would not
include travel or summer expenses.

We offer as many students a chance to study at Macalester as is possible.
Scholarship amounts vary from small amounts to a small number of full
scholarships. If we cannot meet your financial need, we would not offer
you admission.
*

I suppose that's their roundabout way of saying: Yes we'll cover your 100% need, that's why we're not need blind.

thanx a lot. the thing that bothers me is aid. u see i can't afford more than $3,000-$5,000. where exactly would u place macalester in my list? safety, match, reach. look at my stats below. thanx again.

oh i really don't know because i'm not too sure what standard mac is at in terms of rankings or how hard it is to get in. but anyway i think my stats are similar to yours, and i'm waiting for my 'A' level results to come out. you should stand a fair chance heh after all you did the 'A' levels and got straight As. ;)

hey thanx. i certainly hope that i get in. i wanted a college where the aid was generous. macalester seems to be one of them.

I think you are a match if you were a domestic applicant. As for your chances as an international student I can't assess that. Sorry, but I wish you the best of luck where ever you have applied! Hopefully you will get into a few that offer very generous financial aid. To my knowledge the only schools that offer need-blind admissions to international students are: Harvard, Princeton, Yale, Middleburry, and Williams College.
