I participated on Wednesday's night UD webinar for Financing UD Education. Several questions were asked pertaining to merit scholarships and UD indicated that there is an appeal process on their website. You can appeal the merit scholarship decision and amount granted. UD will review the request and get back to you with a decision starting mid-April. Of course my D submitted an appeal, why not. What are the chances historically that UD will change their decision pertaining to merit scholarship and the amount granted?

In the past I have never heard of any OOS student being successful in getting their merit award increased. However, with the relatively new Admission’s Director perhaps things will change. I suspect that possibly they are waiting to see how many students they have already awarded merit aid to who will decide not to attend UD to get some idea of the amount of money they will actually have available. While I guess they might have some idea about this by mid-April it would seem reasonable to asume they won’t have a final handle on this until May 1. Just my thoughts. Good luck. Please let us all know how you make out. This certainly would be good to know for future applicants.

does anyone have a link to the form for appeal? I went online but could not seem to find it. Thanks in advance for any links or guidance to find it.

My niece did appeal and she was top student at her high school instate and given who they knew got awards, the parents were sure there had to have been some mistake. She did not get a dime. Not a cent.

@Mwallenmd - thanks for feedback. Do not know if the Admission Director was the one on the webinar, but he did come across as the person in charge, so hopefully things will change. Will let you know if we hear anything.

@lefty1 - The link to the form is under the Student Financial Service page :<a href=“Financing Your Degree | University of Delaware”>Financing Your Degree | University of Delaware. type in keyword “appeal”, then select - How do I appeal for more scholarships or grants?

great @ titans76 thanks!

Are their any processes available for a student who is a rising sophomore to request an appeal?

Well so much for our appeal. Got the email this evening that D will not be getting anything. Was not expecting much but anything would have been nice considering D got merit offer from every other school. Would be curious to hear responses to @freshmanx2 question. The wording of the email we received today makes it sound like it is possible for upperclassmen to be considered for scholarships based on their academics.

My D also received the same email last night. We knew it was a long shot, but it would have been nice since my D received merit from all of the other schools. I agree the wording does indicate the you will be consider for scholarships based on academics while at UD.

My S received a small surprise scholarship for this year, renewable for next year. He didn’t apply but we found it when I went to pay the bill. There are also some accounting and business departmental scholarships that can be applied for after freshman year, but I’m not sure about other majors.
