It has been nearly 1 month since I was accepted by SJMC(School of Journalism and Mass Communication) of UMN. Actually, SJMC/UMN is always among my best choices,so I was really thrilled when heard this great news! however, 'cause its my first admission offer, it just cost me more than 3 weeks to finally decide to join in UMN...

It's really tough choice to make, 'cause I've got other really sweet options, especially Georgetown. However, considering UMN's top ranking in the field of Communication, I believe I've made the smartest choice! And of course, I hope that SJMC/UMN won't let me down after all.

Right after being accepted, I started to search for information about MN and UMN. (Pitifully, there's always deficient information...) I know that UMN owns a beautiful campus, and people here in MN are very friendly(anybody tell me more about the so-called "Minnesota nice"~?) However, as a foreigner, a campus visit just seems to be impossible for me before enrollment.

Anyway, looking forward to finally arrive UMN! See U guys there!

One more thing, bless myself for getting the funding!

People here are generally nice, but it's not like you would see a glaring difference from any other place. I think as long as you are not completly against cold weather, you shouldn't really need a visit because the campus is great. Also if you have never seen a hockey game there is no better place to start!

May not be most recent, though I would suggest go to google.com. There click on maps, and then zoom in on the Minneapolis area, until you spot University of Minnesota- Twin Cities. Once done, click on the human like figure ( to the left of screen) and place on a outline blue street.

I've never been to a place that cold, so I have never watched hockey game(of course, I have seen some on TV). I know that UMN has an excellent hockey team! looking forward to my first hockey game!

Congrats pkuann. I will make up my mind in the next 3-4 weeks (before May 1st!!) and if I go to the U, see you around. I will be at the Carlson school of Management but I am hoping to be able to take some courses in communication/journalism. If I hate business, I will actually switch. Anyways, you will like the people and the place. Good luck.

(By the way there is absolutely no relationship between my screen name and the real me. lol).

Oh moreover, I don’t understand the word “second” mean, in “I second that idea” either. Really sorry, I guess I have a lot to learn about you American guys internet language…

I have no idea which other universities have admitted you, but I guess since you chose to step into the forum of UMN, it’s somewhat among the best choices of yours, and maybe will further choose to go to the U. Take my previous example, I simply even didn’t enter Georgetown’s forum, even if they admitted me, because I have always had “a crush” on UMN. And the fact is I know that Carlson school of Management is great! Moreover, I also embrace the idea that choosing a good university is as important as choosing a good department, well you know, a good university is always able to offer you a lot of knowledge resourse that will definitely benefit your overall capability. So in this case, I assume UMN is a smart choice for everyone, as long as I know.(Since I’m a foreigner, I can only hear about what UMN is like from almuni of my current university.)

And I’m glad to hear that you are fond of Communication/Journalism! We can absolutely have a lot to talk about in the future, if we may have the chance to meet. And always welcome to SJMC(School of Journalism and Mass Communication), maybe we can meet in some classes, if you’ll register graduate classes. Actually, I assume that you are not gonna to switch to Communication, you know, a few people majoring in Communication may want to switch to Business…I do think Business is interesting and I guess it may make you richer in future. Anyhow, as long as I know, there’s quite some overlap between Business and Communicaition, especially when considering marketing and mass communication.

By the way, I think you’ve got a quite cute screen name(I’ve no idea whether I can call it “nick name”, I mean it should be the latter if literally translated from Chinese into English…) And I do not find any interesting/strange meaning in Chinese,of your screen name. LOL!

pkuann, CC stands for college confidential, which is this message board. TC stands for Twin Cities. sorry for the confusion, lol.

When she said “I second that” it meant she also agrees with the previous statement. She was the “second” person to agree. If another person agreed, they would say “I third that” etc…

For example if I say, “I think there should be no school today” and you say “I second that” it means you’re agreeing with me and also think the same thing.
