@BrownParent Ahhhh got it. I’m aiming for 4’s and 5’s on my four AP’s this year, do you think taking more AP’s next year would boost me or hurt me? My for-sure AP classes are Chem and Lit, maybe Art… I really like art but I’m still skeptical about my artistic pursuit into college years. I think I’m pretty much grounded on wanting a Chem major, and maybe maybe a business minor. But after I visited Oxy and walking around UCLA, I think I like the smaller colleges more, especially after hearing how intimate the student-professor relationship is.

@ucbalumnus I’m finding your link very helpful, thank you so much!

A good place to start looking is http://www.ctcl.org/ - the colleges that change lives. These are all solid schools that will provide you with a good education if you apply yourself. You should be competitive at all of them save Reed (where you might have a shot if you nail the interview and the essay, anyways).

So are you saying your parent EFC is 30,000? and have you found out if they are willing to pay that? If you went to a CC, which I don’t think you need to do but it’s an option, then they would only have to be ashamed for 2 years, then they can be back to normal when you are transferred to a UC and everything will cost less. Maybe talk about that.

You might do well to make a spreadsheet with colleges and costs and likely family contribution. If you have 11,000 make sure it is in your parents account not yours.

Make sure you have some CSUs in your mix, just so you have options. Take a look at Cal Poly Pomona you are in range for stats there. Maybe a Cal Poly will be okay for your parents.

Put some UCs in just so you have options. I recommend one be UCSC as it is smaller and you should like the weather and have a good shot to get in.

Your EC with your science investigation sounds very interesting and you might get a good essay out of it that will be good for UC and the nice private colleges you are looking at. Are you parents okay with those? Did you look at University of the Pacific? A lot of Asian parents seem to know about this one so it seems to be on the acceptable list for some.

I agree with the people who said don’t overdo your Sr year schedule. Take a challenging schedule and step up from last year, that’s important, but don’t overload at all costs. You will be very busy Sr year.

Op,
Your senior grades will not be included in your GPA on your college applications. So you won’t get the extra point boost for taking AP or honors classes. I’m thinking you would like Northern California.
Consider UCSC (match school for you stats), UCSB (reach), UCD (reach), Santa Clara University, University of San Francisco, University of the Pacific
