haha! if that happens--whatever. it'll be for a reason.

firewalker: did you do this on CC or MySpace, cause i got this idea from MySpace.

haha! if that happens--whatever. it'll be for a reason.

firewalker: did you do this on CC or MySpace, cause i got this idea from MySpace.

we did this in CC first, then it moved onto the myspace group (i created the "nyu class of 2010" group)

i wouldnt be surprised if a similar thing pops up on the (many) facebook groups

unfortunately for us RD estudiantes, we don't have access to facebook quite yet. i keep trying to log into the NYU thing though....:)

Soon! We should be able to log in very very soon!! ...I think...

you think?! i sure hope so....

Well, trying to save a few grand, so I may look into Hayden low cost, but I like Brittany hall, and really want to (if my parents can pay) try the Explorations program at Goddard Hall for Writing New York.

I'm going to Stern, Finance major, but probably minor in Creative Writing. I love reading, writing, and watching movies. I love the city scene, and want someone to get lost in the city with, although not enough to really get lost...I have a phobia of directions, because I'm terrible at telling directions. hehe.
I want someone open-minded, especially to books, and all kinds of new ideas. I'm not big on politics, and don't smoke or drink. I can't stand smokers or drinkers (when they smoke or drink, otherwise we're okay), both kinds of people have been in my family...not my scene, at least for dorming anyway.

I'm more quiet, and introvert, but that doesn't mean I don't like to hang with friends. Afterall, I am coming to the city for school. I like my room clean, and the bathroom spotless. Although that doesn't mean I'm not messy, which I frequently am, with papers and books floating around. But I can keep my side clean, so no trouble there.

I'm more of a night owl, until 1 or 2 a.m. anyway, unless on the weekends, at which time I can stay up until 4am. Not a morning person at all. Can't stand any temperature above 70F.

Usually, I'd be reading while listening to music if I stay up late. Real procrastinator, but I get my work done on time. I intend to study a lot, and do a lot of extra curriculars at the school, and get all I could out of the money I'm spending on my college edu.

I'm Chinese-American, and speak fluent Chinese, and read too. So if you're into Chinese culture, I can help you out there. I'm into Chinese literature at times, and love fantasy novels. Harry Potter, LoTR, and Star Wars maniac speaking here. Although I can shut up about fantasy and sci-fi if you really want me too, usually I can talk for hours on the subject.

My pet peeves: not many, except for people who hog spaces. I LIKE my Space. I need space. I do not like it when people toss things to my corner. That's about it. And I usually don't put on makeup, so if you take a long time in front of the mirror, then we may have a problem.
But then again, I take a long time showering.
Oh, and I hate hypocrites.
Also, eating healthy to me is important, although it can't always be done.

So if you can live with all that, then just return a message! hehe.

Forgot a few things...
I read a wide variety of books, watch movies. My latest favorite is Brokeback Mountain. I'm open-minded about Brokeback ideas. I prefer non-smokers, non-alcohol users, and non-drug addicts for roommates. I don't consider myself an intellectual, although I do tend to stare into space, and think for hours upon hours quite often.
I like peace and quiet with just a bit of music playing in the background when I'm studying, reading, or basically doing anything in my room.
Grades will be very important to me in college, although I place more value on getting things learned and hammered into my brain. I'm not a big test-taker, but I like to learn new things.
I see life as grey clouds that hover in the sky against a bright blue sky. The occasional glimpses of light bring much happiness to me, since I am hating high school right now.
I'm not big on clothes, and buying new things. Because of the cash factor. I'm not nerdy and bookish. Rather like to just read books and take it all in smoothly.
Not much of a math person. Used to be. Leaning toward the arts now. Finance is a major I chose because of future possibilities, its not my perfect life though.
I'm not the rays of sunshine kind of person. Gloomy at times, but usually optimistic. Don't like to cry over failed tests. Just try better next time...

i guess bulletproofx has a bunch of similarities with myself

Dorm - somewhere on the square hopefully
School - Tisch (Film and TV)
Male
Philadelphia
Sleep late and go to bed late, but I can get up early if i have to
Religion - Agnostic but enjoy discussing/debating religion - tolerant
Study - Enough to get the job done
Music - bits of EVERYTHING, i guess you could say i like "indie rock" a lot but do not mistake me for a hipster (big insult....), but i also like orchestral, jazz, rock from light to heavy, jam bands, even some rap (not really anything you'd see on MTV i guess though...) basically genre doesnt matter if the artist is good and i enjoy it
Films - uhhh this could be a really big list but I guess my favorite recent movies are Mulholland Drive, The Kill Bills, Lost in Translation, 2046, Match Point, The Life Aquatic, and a whole bunch more (film is basically my favorite thing)
Ideal roomie - intellectual and enjoys discussing things but does not always have to be serious and can have fun too
Cleanliness - I am not SUPER neat but i do try and keep things organized and would never let it get to the point of annoyance
Character traits - good balance of serious and thoughtful/ fun and enjoyable i guess, very tolerant and pretty liberal but not psycho about it, really like debates, discussions, things like that before i go to bed at night
Currently Reading - The Idiot by Fyodor Dostoyevsky, A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man by James Joyce, and Alexander Hamilton by Ron Chernow (and kinda The Wind-Up Bird Chronicles by Haruki Murakami)

Besides that, I guess I know NYC fairly well because I have cousins there that I visit now and then and I go there with my friends sometimes. Uhhh, that's it. I still may just decide to let NYU choose though. My myspace is www.myspace.com/gaffytaffy

!!!!!!!! I thought that I was the only person on this side of the world who had ANY idea what 2046 was! I LOVED that movie! And the soundtrack?! AMAZING too!

I thought it might be helpful to get some information about requesting roommates if you attend New York University next year. Where possible, the Office of Housing does attempt to honor roommate requests. Both individuals must independently contact the Housing Office to request to live together. It is not possible to honor all requests for roommates or to honor all requests for a specific residence hall on campus. Moreover, it's important to remember that very real dangers exist from posting extensive personal information on-line to individuals you only know over the internet. It also might be helpful when posting about things like your intent to try drugs in college to remember that admissions professionals (ie. the people who read your applications and are responsible for your admissions decision) frequent these forums.

yeeees, 2046 was amazing, probably my favorite movie of 2005. Yeah the soundtrack is perfect for the movie and great outside of the movie as well. SO GOOD!

hahha makes me glad i have no intention of trying drugs in college (/ever)....

i think im gonna go check out this movie! i looked it up on imdb just now and it looks really interesting!

haha scrapnel i just did the same thing, definitely have to check it out now

I'd recommend checking out In the Mood for Love before 2046. While 2046 is visually stunning on its own, I feel that knowing the details of In the Mood for Love enhances the impact of 2046's plot (I also think In the Mood for Love is better, but that's just my opinion). It's not that 2046 is an official "sequel," but there are definitely very important connections that make the main character's emotions much more understandable. Actually, I hear that Happy Together relates as well, but I haven't seen it. Kar Wai Wong is a genius, though, so I'm sure it's excellent. Chungking Express is actually my favorite of his films, so definitely check that one out if you like any of the other three mentioned.

Something of note: In my opinion, Christopher Doyle, the cinematographer of all three of those films, plays just as much of a role in making them excellent as the esteemed director himself. Other films Doyle has worked on that I'd recommend: Hero (though you've probably seen it; Zhang and Doyle are an excellent combination), Last Life in the Universe, Infernal Affairs, and Rabbit-Proof Fence. I'm really excited for Paris, je t'aime (not out yet), though, a 20 segment film about love in Paris. Doyle actually directs one of the segments, along with Twyker (Run Lola Run... Natalie Portman is in his segment), the Coen Brothers (although I don't really like them, Steve Buscemi is in their segment), Natali (Cube), Van Sant (Good Will Hunting), Payne (Sidways), Craven (not a big fan myself, but Scream), Salles (Motorcycle Diaries), Cuaron (Y Tu Mama Tambien), Chomet (Triplets of Belleville)... That's all I can remember, but there are others.

Some people compare In the Mood for Love and Last Life in the Universe to Lost in Translation (my personal favorite film), so if you like that, you'll probably like those as well.

Thank you for the heads up, NYU UGADMISSIONS--I'm thinking that even though I'm looking up people on here, I'll probably let NYU randomly choose a roommate for me (it IS part of the excitement, after all :)). As for admissions officers reading these...shall we say REVEALING posts :), at least you get to meet the students underneath all of the essays and scores. :)

Shirobot: I had NO idea that there was another movie assiciated with 2046. I'll have to check it out, pronto. so the "20 segment film", is that sort of like an anthology of mini movies? I really liked all of the movies that those directors were involved in....

ahhh shirobot- thanks so much for the suggestion.

definitely looking forward to Paris, je t'aime

...am I the only one who didn't know that College Admissions Reps looked around these forums? When I mentioned to a friend that an NYU Representative had been on here, she acted totally unsurprised,

Now I'm starting to get all nervous about what I post on here........

i knew NYUUGADMISSIONS had been posting, and i've heard that companies and colleges have begun using the internet (facebook and whatnot) to further profile applicants. i'm not sure how true that is, but i use the same logic on this board as i do on any other place online: don't post information/pictures that you might not want someone else to have. :P

wish i could take back my comment criticizing the lack of updated dates on the website. :( and replace it with I LOVE NYU
