Finding a crowd to fit in with

So I go to a community college in the east bay and I applied to transfer to Berkeley in the Fall. The one thing I am concerned with is that if I do end up attending I would have a hard time finding people that I fit in with. My school is pretty much the urban/pothead/east bay crowd so those are the kinds of people that I chill with. All my friends are transferring to CSU's so I'm going to have to find a new crowd if I end up at Berkeley. I have encountered Berkeley students a few times at forensics tournaments, and from my experience they seemed a little snobbish. No offense to you guys and I am sure that there are plenty of cool people at Berkeley, but I am just worried that I would be an outcast, especially since I will be a transfer student.

Am I worrying too much about this? Is the vast majority of the student population at Berkeley the overachiever/super competitive/upper class type? I know it's good to make friends with new kinds of people but I also would like to be able to chill with people that I can relate to as well.

Urrrrr maybe a tad snobby, but MOST Berkeley kids are not upper class. Many are low-middle class and this is kinda why they are soooo competitive since they have a lot of pressure to do well and make a lot money so many push themselves very far for that reason.

So basically mostly asian? hahaha I kid I kid.

Seriously though, doesn’t sound so bad as long as I can find some down to earth people here and there.

Yeah, they’re definitely there. 25,000+ and you find every type of person.

I would say more overachieving people than laid-back people, but there are groups of every kind. Join some clubs and see if you like any of the people.

So basically mostly Asian?

The answer is actually yes. This school is like faux-Chinatown.

Esp. if you go into engineering, it’ll be even more of a faux-Chinatown.
